Summary

The second novel set in the Old Republic era and based on the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic ramps up the action and brings listeners "face-to-face" for the first time with a Sith warrior to rival the most sinister of the Order’s Dark Lords: Darth Malgus, the mysterious, masked Sith of the wildly popular “Deceived” and “Hope” game trailers.

Malgus brought down the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in a brutal assault that shocked the galaxy. But if war crowned him the darkest of Sith heroes, peace would transform him into something far more heinous - something Malgus would never want to be, but cannot stop, any more than he can stop the rogue Jedi fast approaching.

Her name is Aryn Leneer - and the lone Knight that Malgus cut down in the fierce battle for the Jedi Temple was her Master. And now she’s going to find out what happened to him - even if it means breaking every rule in the book.

Fantastic for a first timer!

This is the first time i've ever listened to an Audio book and also the first ever Star Wars book. It's fantastic and clear to follow, the story is gripping and the characters make you feel for them. The reader's voice is brilliant and very easy to listen to.

Fantastic.

Fantastic easy listening but shallow

I really enjoyed this book, there is very little story (one might even say shallow) but the way it was written and narrated more than made up for the lack of grey matter needed to listen.
It felt like one huge lightsaber battle through the book (and lets be honest who doesn't watch Star Wars for those!)
The narration was probably the best I've ever had the pleasure to listen to!
The narrator handled the different voices brilliantly and was almost breathless with excitement, he really got into his role and I think his enthusiasm was contagious.
This is one of the few books I'd easily listen to more than once and can heartily recommend it if you want an action packed story with first rate exciting narration as well as the obligatory and oh so famous Star Wars universe sound effects that really bang the action home and make you feel really immersed.
Just don't expect a deep storyline, the book is an excuse for action and more action.
Luckily the action is great!
Just to add, I can't get enough of Marc Thompson's narration (after listening to Reven as well) and intend to work my way through all the books he's narrated.

Great fun

Great fun. Can't wait to listen to the next one. Corny in places, no doubt, but it fulfilled its expectation to be fun. I enjoyed it so much I listened twice!

The one thing I didn't like was the rather graphic attention to detail during fight scenes. I felt it was superfluous to requirements and actually detracted from the plot rather than adding to it, as the description of the sound someone's arm makes as it is twisted and breaks takes rather a lot of print (and leaves me wincing). I wanted to get on with the story.

Underrated - unless you're on a mission in life

My first exposure to the World of SW audiobooks. So maybe a little biased.
Definitely one of my faves, up there with Bane Trilogy, Darth Plagueis and Revan.
Amazing voice actor Marc Thompson.

(optional?)

Loved it, some female voice acting by a woman wouldn't have gone a miss but overall great.

Old Republic fun and games.

Fairly run of the mill “revenge” story, but far more character driven than plot driven. No McGuffin to be found, or giant space lasers. Brisk pace and excitingly written. Great narration. Expanded my understanding experience of the Old Republic period.

narrator as usual did a great job but story got very boring at times and I got lost in the minor details and found it hard to follow at times. darth malgus was enjoyable though.
