The destruction of the Death Star by the Rebel Alliance was a decisive blow against the Empire, but Palpatine and his monstrous enforcer, Darth Vader, are no less of a threat. The brutal extermination of Alderaan not only demonstrated the magnitude of their murderous power, but served as a chilling testament to their resolve to crush the Rebel uprising. Standing against them, Skywalker, Solo, and the Princess remain uncertain opponents. Luke is gifted and brave, but unschooled in the power he possesses.

Summary
Sleek, swift, and deadly, they are the X-wing fighters. And as the battle against the Empire rages across the vastness of space, the pilots risk both their lives and their machines for the cause of the Rebel Alliance. Now they must embark on a dangerous espionage mission, braving betrayal and death on the Imperial homeworld to smash the power of a ruthless foe!
It is the evil heart of a battered and reeling Empire: Coruscant, the giant city-world from whose massive towers the Imperial High Command directs the war. The Rebels will invade this mighty citadel in a daring move to bring the Empire to its knees. But first Wedge Antilles and his X-wing pilots must infiltrate Coruscant to gain vital intelligence information.
Capture means death or, worse - enslavement by the vicious leader known as "Iceheart", Ysanne Isard, now emperor in all but name. And one of Rogue Squadron's own is already her slave, a traitor hidden behind a mask of innocence, working to betray both colleagues and the Rebellion itself.

Story of how the Rebels took Imperial Centre
This is the story of how the Rebels forces took over what was known as Imperial Centre, or Coruscant.
To do this Rogue Squadron must infiltrate themselves into Coruscant society under a variety of different cover identities and in small groups.
There are of course a number of Rebel intelligence operatives already on the planet which work with the separated sections if Rogue Squadron to achieve their objectives. Through the efforts of the Rebels a number of attempts to bring down the planetary shields are made so that the Rebel fleet will be able to take over the planet when they arrive.
However, the head of Imperial intelligence Ysanne Issard knows the Rebels are present on Imperial Centre and is planning to allow them to take over the planet, but not until the secret virus she is having General Dericote developing is ready.
Eventually the members of Rogue Squadron and the Rebel intelligence agents manage to cause a huge storm using an orbital mirror, this causes lightening that shirts out the planetary shields just as the Rebel fleet, led by Admiral Akbar arrive in orbit.
However during a dogfight whilst Rogue Squadron are attempting to cause the storm, Corran Horn finds that his fighter is seemingly under the control of somebody else and he is no longer able to control where it flys. It then crashes and Corran is seemingly killed.
However in the epilogue, this is shown to be not true and Corran is actually being held prisoner by Issard. But the epilogue is not part of the audio book.

I really enjoy the X-wing books
I really enjoy these books but I feel like these abridged versions cut out to much, it messes with the pace and it's easy to sometimes get lost in relation to what each character is doing. Unabridged versions would be more than welcome and feel like better value as I feel these books are too short. I find I really enjoy Henry Thomas's performance and his voice suits Corran in his early books and would have like him to narrate the book I, Jedi over Anthony Heald who did that book.

Good, but SEVERELY abridged.
Henry Thomas's performance is good, but some of the charters sound too similar. It lacks the details that make it a really good book, as the abridged story just leaves out too much of what make the book so much more enjoyable and complete.

This is an absurdly poorly labelled abriged verson
Quite honestly I feel cheated that the abridged versions are not well labelled. It does not help that the narrator *constantly* mispronounces names of people and planets mentioned *in the movies*. It also doesn't help the narrator constantly misreads the line for one character in a different character's "voice".
Overall a disappointing offering. Especially compared to the production value and talent put into the Heir to the Empire and Thrawn series books. I'd expect better out of Audible. I gave these versions an honest shot. I will be fighting it out with customer service to get these credits back.

Do Not Buy This Abridged Version
Voice acting was decent to passing. Horrible amount of material lost from the original texts. Characters are way too shallow in this abridged version, and you lose the reasoning in their personal drives and motivations regarding the decisions they make and the way they react to or interpret the events in their world. If you are a virgin to the series, you might simply wonder why the plot events were so hurried, or the characters so superficial, but if you've read the books before, you will realize that this abridged version doesn't do Michael A. Stackpole justice, and will be sorely disappointed in the absence of material. I followed the original text side by side whilst listening to the audio and was a bit surprised with how much they cut out. Nothing like summing up two chapters of a dynamic and interesting alien encounter with a squadron member in a cantina down to two paragraphs as an 'intro' explanation as to why the plot just jumped scenes. If you're familiar with the story, you'll know what event I'm talking about when you're suddenly thrust three chapters into the future. Will not be continuing the series. Please don't tell me they destroyed 'I, Jedi' in the same manner; not to my baby. notlikethis.gif

Not bad not bad.
Henry Thomas isn't my favorite narrator, but he's far superior to the other one of "the new jedi order" stories. No Marc Thomas, but that's ok. Although, one thing that bothered me most was his mispronunciation of "Coruscant". He's pronouncing it "coru-scant" when it's actually "coruh-sunt". Other than that, not too bad

HT Read with good characters definition
It was a good audiobook, read with enthusiasm and good character definition, but the reader should know how to pronounce Corusant. Pronounced Cor/or/s/ant. It sounded like he was unfamiliar with the famed city or Star Wars itself, prior to making the audio recording.
