About this listen
Productivity Meets Purpose - Discover a Powerful Nine-Step Method to Start Finishing the Work That Matters Most
How much of your time and attention lately has been focused on things that truly matter to you?
Most people's honest answer is: not enough.
Everyone is buried by busywork, responsibility, distraction, and fatigue.
The joy-producing, difference-making ideas are waiting for when the time is right, when the current project is over, when they have a little more money, when the kids are grown, or when they get a more understanding boss. They are waiting for someday.
The trouble is someday never comes on its own.
Start Finishing presents a nine-step method for converting an idea into a project by addressing the challenges you'll face and getting the project on a reality-based schedule.
The book will teach you how to:
- Practice the five keys that lead to self-mastery
- Build your success pack of supporters, guides, peers, and beneficiaries
- Keep working through the thrashing that comes with any project that matters to you
- Chunk, link, and sequence your ideas down to doable parts
- Use the Five Project Rule to prioritize your daily schedule and be at peace with the work you choose not to do
- Fly through drag points - how to deal with head trash, no-win scenarios, and other people’s priorities
- Heatmap your schedule so you do the right work at the right time
- Overcome cascades, logjams, and tarpits - the three ways projects routinely get stuck
- Finish strong - celebrate, review, and ride the momentum to your next goal
You are not incapable, wired to struggle, or fated to be unable to get your act together. With a few key steps, you can change the way you show up, how you plan, and how you respond when things get tough.
You can Start Finishing the work that matters most to you.

Already on my third listen
Charlie Gilkey shares some wonderfully inspiring ideas and I must confess I'm a little ashamed I didn't know his name before coming across this title. You get all sorts of moments that stop you in your tracks with their simplicity and strength. I'm already on my third listen and I'm sure it will be followed by many more. I can't recommend this book highly enough. I'm enjoying it immensely Thank you Charlie - you've made a big difference to this man's life..

Listen to it, then read it and do the exercises
There are lots of good reviews for this book out there, and I loved it, so I’ll just talk about how well this book works as an audio book.
I love audio books as they mean I can consume a book while doing other things in my life, like walking the dog, going for a run, cooking dinner. The problem comes when a book can’t just be consumed, but you need to take notes or do exercises to get the value from it. This is one of those books.
I’ve just finished listening to this book and I’m now going to take the time to go through the written version and do the steps and actions he describes.
I don’t mind doing that. I viewed listening to the book as an easy introduction. Now I’m convinced and will put the effort in to get the full value from it.

Good tips, missing a story
I struggled to finish listening to this book as although it does have quite a few great ideas on how to structure and complete projects, it's missing a compelling story to go with it and in places has too much detail that I did not need at this time. Then again, if someone is looking for a practical manual on how to structure and complete projects, they might find this quite helpful.

Simple and Profound, - amazing guide
I have been reading so many books, listen to so many audios, you tubes videos on time/tasks management, "getting things done", use so many apps/ and tools and yet ......... I often feel so guilty of either
.....NOT getting things done (procrastination)
.....not getting ENOUGH things done/accomplished (*creative syndrome/ analysis paralysis*)
.....getting things not properly done/not good enough (*perfectionist*)
.......along with feeling guilty of not spending time with my little kids and family etc....
This book solves all these problems. I am so surprised that Charlie is a male author yet this book is so relevant for "momtreprenuer". Love every chapter of it. I got the audible version and just bought the hard-copy as well so I can physically refer back to all the tips shall I need to.
The audio he speaks with calm and kind tone of voice with bit of humor, you don't feel so guilty of what you have been "putting off" and learn so much. Love the narration.
Bonus, Charlie develops an amazing system ! This book can be compared with the book "Atomic Habits", both are awesomely impressive!
Charlie's words of wisdom , drawing from the ancient philosophers to modern authors truly make a positive impact in improving my lifestyle. Highly recommended. Bonus: Charlie has an awesome Momentum planner that he develops himself and it is so EFFECTIVE. much much better than those I have been using so far. Really recommended for "multi-passionate"/creative forks especially those with family commitments!!!
