About this listen
From the early days selling garments in an open-fronted shop in Brixton, to the Queen’s private apartment–where she attends Her Majesty as the royal corsetiere–June Kenton’s story is full of surprises. She is the petite powerhouse who transformed London’s renowned Rigby & Peller into an internationally-recognised luxury lingerie brand and a multi-million-pound retail chain. Along the way, passion and principle have drawn June far from the exclusive boudoirs of the well-to-do and famous.
Nearly 20 years campaigning for freedom and justice saw her being ejected from the Wimbledon tennis championships, the Coliseum and dozens of other landmark venues. She then pushed herself to her physical limits trekking across the Sinai desert; and, in a cruel twist of fate, tackled breast cancer head-on. June Kenton insists that when she talks of bras she is talking to every woman. When she talks of her rich and varied life, the same is certainly true. This is her story….

Wow what a lady!
Loved listening to every minute of this wonderful lady’s interesting and exciting story. To have served the Queen is quite something. Rigby & Pellar what a brand!

Excellent first audio book, keeps you drawn in. A must listen
Extraordinary tale of Rigby and Peller from the market place to Buckingham Palace. Interesting autobiography of June and Harold Kenton’s life. I didn’t want it to end. Fabulous to learn it was read by her daughter Jill Kenton and what a natural read that kept me listening. As being non Jewish I was not familiar with some words so the end was great to listen to the explanation of said words.

I didn’t want it to end!
Full disclosure, I was gifted this book by the family, which actually made me even more excited to get listening.
Nutshell: I didn’t want it to end!
I’ve never got through a book so quickly, but I was so captivated by the family’s story that I struggled to “put it down.”
And what a lovely story it is. Straight from the heart, and how beautiful that June & Harold’s daughter Jill, gets to narrate her own family’s story. This adds so much to it, drawing you into the Kenton’s life inside and out of the lingerie world. As a result, I feel I’ve got to know the family in a way I never did before. A very emotive for me.
I’ve since had visions of seeing this as a tv mini series. There’s so much potential there.
Whether you know them or not, this is a wonderful listen and I highly recommend you give this a go if you like true emotive stories sprinkled with royalty, celebrity, a dash of humour and a hearty portion of honesty from June.
Enjoy!
