Summary

Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant started the podcast Stuff You Should Know back in 2008 because they were curious - curious about the world around them, curious about what they might have missed in their formal educations and curious to dig deeper on stuff they thought they understood.

As it turns out, they aren't the only curious ones. They've since amassed a rabid fan base, making Stuff You Should Know one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Armed with their inquisitive natures and a passion for sharing, they research and discuss a wide variety of topics - always working to uncover the weird, fascinating, delightful or unexpected pieces of any given subject and then talking about it together in an accessible and humorous way.

The pair has now taken their near-boundless 'whys' and 'hows' from podcast to audiobook for the first time - and with it comes loads of new content, covering subjects about which they've long wondered or wanted to explore in greater detail. Follow along as they dig into the underlying stories and interesting ways things fit into the world, touching on everything from the origin of Murphy beds, to the history of facial hair and the psychology of being lost.

An additional layer of visual material allows the duo to further embellish their engaging storytelling and bring these topics to life in a snappy new way-including charts and graphs, illustrations and sidebars for rabbit-hole tangents and wandering digressions.

Have you ever wondered about the world around you, and wished to see the magic in everyday things? Come get curious with Stuff You Should Know. With Josh and Chuck as your guide, there's something interesting about everything (...except maybe jackhammers)

really enjoyed listening to this. really fascinating topics, and read so well. it didn't feel forced like I've heard some audio books. I'm very impressed.

"Mostly interesting, indeed!"

It's not a long book, but it was a brilliant bargain in the sale at £3. I would recommend this book to SYSK fans who want to support the podcast, or as a gift for someone who loves general knowledge. It's well worth checking out the podcast if you haven't already, because you can easily choose which topics you want to learn about. The show has been around for so long that they've got an episode on practically anything you can think of!

It's ok, but the narration feels wrong

The content is fine, some interesting topics, but I don't feel that I works well as an audio book overall. It's probably the contrast to the conversational way we're used to hearing these voices, but the narration isn't very natural and sounds quite jarring, Josh moreso than Chuck.

I would recommend fans of the podcast pick up the printed version and read it instead.

Small town America

This is an intersecting but small town America parochial view on life most of the references passed me by as I am not from that background

Great Book

Loved the book, just slightly disappointed that it sections were read separately by Chuck and Josh, rather than in the conversational style on the podcast

American focus

An enjoyable listen, but very much focussed on US elements. Not as relevant for a UK audience as it could be. Interesting chapters none the less.

ok but very US centric

Enjoyed but it would be better to make it clear that it's very USA based on the title. I'm UK so some of the topics were a bit irrelevant.

Entertaining Stuff

Great relaxed presentation and filled with Stuff you don’t really need to know but certainly will give you a catalogue of interesting snippets to enlighten and amuse your friends when the dialogue becomes a little barren.
