Great book, stayed with me for weeks
It's rare that I think about books once they're finished but this one stayed with me. Such a lovely story and good characters.
I don't agree that it's anywhere near laugh out loud, but it's actually much better. Lots of places it made me smile though.
Daisy has a boyfriend and a surrogate family (his) but you can tell from the first time he forgets her special occasion and leaves her waiting for hours at a posh restaurant with the champagne in bucket of melting ice that he is clearly not the man for her, even if she doesn't get it yet. He's not a caricature one-dimensional bad boyfriend, in fact all the characters are pretty rounded and believable which makes Daisy's journey that much more interesting.
She books a week away at a glamping site where she meets some wonderful women, yummy pastries and an even yummier man in the forest. There is not ridiculous electric shock on first meeting, the romance is slow and steady and builds up beautifully. Jake gradually grows into the perfect man for her and we can see she's the ideal girl for him but... there is sadness in both their lives and of course the boyfriend.
OK we know she'll end up with gorgeous Jake but how we get there is unexpected and beautiful.
Loved this book, will read more of this author's work
The narrator was great. She enhanced the story without getting in its way with too many accents and voices which can be distracting
