Summary

Lisa Edwards, top London magazine editor, has been fantasizing about promotion to New York. Instead, she's asked to launch a new women's magazine in Dublin. She thinks nothing could be worse - until she meets her new staff. They're friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic - in other words, they wouldn't last two minutes in London!

As Lisa struggles to find her feet in this alien world of no back-stabbing or bitchiness, her neurotic assistant, Ashling, is also in trouble. She's just too nice for journalism, and it shows. Who better to help them both than their handsome-but-hassled boss, Jack Devine? Always allowing for the fact that his moodiness could give Heathcliff a run for his money, of course.

worst Irish accents ever

The narrator failed to to do one convincing Irish accent. Half the time sounding like an extra in the Archers.
Nearly spoilt an entertaining book

Terrible Irish accents

A great story completely ruined by an atrocious attempt at Irish accents. This is usually a great part of the Marian Keyes stories but spoilt the listening experience this time.

Terrible “Irish” accents are off putting

I’m sure the story is enjoyable but I can no longer listen to the “Irish” accents. The female characters sound male, a mix of pirates and Scottish farmers?! Extremely off putting!

An easy listen

It's dated now but nonetheless I found it a relaxing easy listen and beautifully narrated. I'll be looking up Juanita McMahin now!

Fab story but truly awful narration!

This story was as easily enjoyable as most Marian Keyes and I though I like Juanita McMahons voice, the accents were so dreadful it completely spoilt the story. At times one character was indeterminate from another and the Irish accents were appalling.

Ruined by narration

Marian Keyes is entertaining as ever - why oh why couldn’t they have found a narrator with an Irish accent so we could be spared the cod Oirish accents and mispronunciations. A lot if the humour would work better if read by an Irish person

Good rating for the book, appalling narration

I was barely able to listen to this narration without cringing. I have no idea why they couldn't hire an Irish actress to narrate it as almost all of the characters are Irish. The narrator's Irish accent sounded exactly like an annoying English person taking the p*** and trying to do an "Oirish" impression, but for 16 hours.

I love Marian Keyes's books but I think the publishers really need to reissue these with an Irish actress doing the narration, as with This Charming Man or Mystery of Mercy Close.

Accents were terrible!

Marian Keyes is an Irish writer and so I expected it to be narrated by an Irish author. The English accented author didn’t bring it alive for me, her Irish accents were unconvincing and I was really disappointed.

Dodgy narration

Wonderful book, terrible narration -
a lot of the humour doesn't come across as it should. Marian Keyes deserves better!
