Summary

He’s my ex-boyfriend’s uncle. The man who dropped us off at prom.

And I can’t stop thinking about him.

The plan was simple: I’d blow out of our small town in a blaze of glory, find a job in the city, and start my fabulous life. I was set.

But three years since graduating high school, and I barely have 10 bucks to my name. Life has well and truly kicked my ass, and somehow I wash back up in the town I couldn’t wait to leave.

I guess it’s familiar, even though my parents are long gone. I guess he’s familiar too. Is that why I can’t keep away from Everett Bray?

It’s wrong to want him like I do. Wrong to lay awake at night, longing for him.

But sometimes when I catch him staring, I think...maybe he wants me too.

Take Me Home is a steamy forbidden instalove novella, starring a plucky, down-on-her-luck girl and her off-limits crush.

Amazing age gap romance

Josie found herself down in her luck so returned to her hometown to try and get back on her feet. Everett, her best friends and high school sweethearts uncle found her bathing in a river and discovered she was sleeping in her car! He took her home to keep her safe and help her get back on her feet. They both had feelings for the other but kept them hidden for years but the close proximity soon led to more. Sweet, steamy story with amazing chemistry, a little misunderstanding, a little family drama and a lovely HEA. I absolutely loved the audiobook, the narrators were fantastic!.

Gray returns home to visit his family when his father is ill. This is the first time he has been home in ten years. He is Maddie's older sisters' ex. Maddie left the Ansell School of Performing Arts where she was studying Bachelors in Music after a horrific experience; she now works at the local diner. Maddie finds herself rescuing him from a large bunch of teenagers .
Maddie's sister hmmm jealous.

Great dual narration from Isabelle Turner and Xander Marceaux.

Take me Home

I absolutely loved this audiobook. The narrators did such a good job.

Josie and Everett are great characters (although I did want to slap Everett at one point 😄).

A slow-burn insta-love

I am a huge fan of Cassie Mint and instalove books as a whole - but this was my first foray into an audio version. The shorter length of book obviously also equals a shorter audio book - this one coming in at 2 hours and 26 minutes.

Josie has returned to her small town in hopes of starting over - but with nothing to her name and nowhere to go, she finds herself at the place she spent most of her youth - at her ex-boyfriend’s home. Except he’s not there. But his uncle, Everett, is. And as inappropriate as she knows it is, Josie has a massive crush on him. What she doesn’t know is that he’s crushing right back.

Josie was a likeable character even if she lacked a little direction in her life. She was young - 21 and hadn’t really done much with her life so far. But that was kind of glossed over as this was all about her and Everett. I find I don’t have much to say about Josie but she was an easy character to root for. Voiced by Isabelle Turner, she did a good job of bringing Josie to life and was easy to listen to.

Everett was voiced by Xander Marceaux and what a lovely, gruff, growly voice he had. Obsessed. He played the older (34) Everett really well, even when it turned out that he wasn’t the worldly, wise man we had expected. There was a large age gap between our characters (13 years) but I didn’t get the icky vibe and it felt okay to me.

This was an easy, enjoyable read and, as always, I love Ms Mint’s ability to tell a story and have me hooked. It just took quite a lot of the book before our characters did something about their mutual attraction. It went from pining to ‘we know there’s something here but we’re not going to do anything about it’ in a heartbeat - but we still had to wait. And when the moment came, Everett near made me hate him in one fell swoop. It would’ve been fine if he’d grovelled like his life depended on it - but it fell a little flat for me.

As I said, a good book to while away a couple of hours - and it’s a great length for a lazy afternoon or to accompany your chores. Not Cassie Mint’s best but still does what you want it to and gives you that sticky, sweet happily ever after. 3 stars.
