Story
London. Early morning, June 2019: on the foreshore of the river Thames, a bag of bones is discovered. Human bones. DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene and quickly sends the bag for forensic examination. The bones are those of a young woman, killed by a blow to the head many years ago. Also inside the bag is a trail of clues, in particular the seeds of a rare tree which lead DCI Owusu back to a mansion in Chelsea where three people lay dead in a kitchen. Four deaths. An unsolved mystery. A family whose secrets can't stay buried for ever.

Story
It all starts when Dr Temperance Brennan finds a box on her porch. Inside is a fresh human eyeball with GPS coordinates etched into it. They lead her to a macabre discovery in a Benedictine Monastery, and soon after she discovers a mummified corpse in a state park. There seems to be no pattern to these killings, except that each mimics a killing connected to something a younger Tempe experienced, or barely escaped. Someone is targeting her, and she needs to figure out why before they strike again. And then her daughter Katy disappears.

Summary
An Eddie Flynn novel from the Sunday Times and million copy best-selling author of Thirteen, Fifty Fifty and The Devil's Advocate.
The most hated woman in America.
The Sandman killings have been solved. Daniel Miller murdered fourteen people before he vanished. His wife, Carrie, now faces trial as his accomplice. The FBI, the District Attorney, the media and everyone in America believe she knew and helped cover up her husband's crimes.
The lawyer.
Eddie Flynn won't take a case unless his client is innocent. Now, he has to prove to a jury, and the entire world, that Carrie Miller was just another victim of the Sandman. She didn't know her husband's dark side and she had no part in the murders. But so far, Eddie and his team are the only ones who believe her.
The former FBI agent.
Gabriel Lake used to be a federal agent, before someone tried to kill him. Now, he's an investigator with a vendetta against the Sandman. He's the only one who can catch him, because he believes that everything the FBI knows about serial killers is wrong.
The killer.
With his wife on trial, the Sandman is forced to come out of hiding to save her from a life sentence. He will kill to protect her and everyone involved in the case is a target.
Even Eddie Flynn....

You won’t be disappointed
It’s difficult to write a review and not give away any of the story but I’ll try. The plot is incredibly well thought out. Fast paced and gripping.
Cavanagh is brilliant at creating interesting characters from the main protagonists to the getaway drivers, he manages to bring them to life so well.
When you think you had your solution there’s a twist and it just all comes together.
I think that
Sims does a wonderful job with the narration and he is great at bringing different characters to life. Over time he just got better and better.
My only gripe is the female narrator her reading is awful. It’s almost like she reads line to line as opposed to the end of the sentence. Her delivery is robotic and flat and to top it all off she has a lisp. Ugh. (Please find someone better for the next book Audible!) Luckily her part is only about 5% of the while book. Despite of the shortcomings of the female narrator I whole heartedly recommend this book.

Still not sure
I think I need to try this one again given all the 5 star reviews. Have loved all the other books but wasn’t as gripped by this one. Didn’t really get the.new main character and some of the story was a little predictable for me.
Another female friend of Eddies in peril was also a bit samey.
I’m sure I’m just having a bad day because I do genuinely love Steve’s work

amazing
the book is amazing as expected. Steve Cavanagh has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I eagerly look forward to reading more Eddie Flynn. He always manage to surprise me, each time I think I know where we're going the is suddenly a twist. I really hope we get more of Gabriel Lake. Adam Sims is the perfect narrator for the books, his voices are amazing. His voice for Lake is just what I picture when reading the book alongside the audiobook.
