Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

Story
I thought my sister was happy. I thought what we all thought: that Annie and Dom led perfect lives in a lovely cottage in a quiet village by the sea, with flowers at the front gate and an apple tree in the garden. Everyone knew them: generous, loving Dom, creative, joyful Annie. But I never saw Annie as she sat waiting for Dom well into the night. I didn’t see her smiling through her tears. I didn’t know what the perfect couple was hiding.

Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

But soon strange things begin to happen in my flat: odd noises in the night, the feeling that I’m being watched. The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

really great story. not predictable. gripping

Summary
She doesn’t know I’m there, watching her in the mirror. She slides her hand under her blouse. And then I see something impossible. She isn’t pregnant....
She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. She seems so perfect, with her lilting laugh and her beautiful face. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell.
Only I seem to suspect something. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy.
So when the baby shower comes around, I’m there, sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. We share gifts, we pour small glasses of champagne, and she beams, her bump just visible under her bright red shirt.
But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth.
There is no baby....
A stunningly twisty story of toxic female friendships, guilt, and lies from S.E. Lynes, author of the number one best seller The Housewarming. If you like Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn, and Paula Hawkins, you’ll be glued to The Baby Shower.

Was an OK listen, but the typical storyline when the good person knows something about someone and tries to tell everyone but no one believes them, and they end up being the villan, until it comes to light that the villan is the person the good one was warning everyone about

Psychological page-turner
The first 2/3 of this book were as engaging and suspenseful as any I've listened to on Audible. I loved the main character and could feel her pain from being rejected by her best friend. The "thrilling" conclusion was not quite as good as the build-up. Overall, however, this book was so much better in terms of plot and character development than most of the psychological thrillers in my Audible library.

Toxic friends and other enemies..
I liked this book, which basically deals with toxic friendships and long-term grudges. I did find parts frustrating - because I hope that, in the same situations as the main character, I would be more assertive and less likely to take the crap that was heaped on the protagonist by a new member of her friendship circle. I had most of it figured out somehow, and I was happy that nothing happened to the dog! The one thing that bothered me was (spoiler alert) the revelation of the pregnancy. I was really hoping the author wouldn't go there, because, as an infertile woman myself, I know it just wasn't realistic due to her medical issues. The narration was quite good. Worth the credit!

Lies breed lies breed lies …
As always S.E. Lynes pens another suspenseful thriller. I was audicted from the very first, finding it almost impossible to take a break. Adding to its success are the narrative skills of Tamsin Kennard, a fave of mine. I’ve got a full selection of books by these two brilliantly and talented women.(Might we have more?)“The Baby Shower” introduces its listeners to quirky, devious and conniving characters. Secrets, lies and puzzling surprises await. Lynes interweaves riveting subplots to make this a highly recommended listen. Worth a treasured credit, I can’t stress it enough: Add this engaging offering to your Audible library. And yes, here I go again, shouting from the rooftop, “Epic, I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!”

I love this author of modern, scandalous mysteries. :) Even when I know where the plot is going and have figured out the twists, I still can’t wait to see how things unfold. The writing, to me, is just that gripping.
Also, let’s not forget about our phenomenal narrator, Tamsin Kennard. She is easily one of my favorite voices on Audible! Having done voice work myself, I am in awe. If I can become 10% as talented as her, I will be thrilled.

Very good!!!
I listen to ton of audible audiobooks, and I never write reviews only when the book really keeps me interested in wanting to know what happens next every moment. I was right owns the variance. Only thing I would say that’s not a wonderful addition would be that I figured out a big part of it pretty early on, but it still keep together very nicely and they were so many smaller stories that tied together very well so it wasn’tThat much of a letdown like it is so often when you have figured it out so soon.
