Summary

They say they have no children. So who did I see at the window?

My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together.

But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to? And why can I hear a lullaby drifting across the garden when I’m tucking my own boy into bed?

Then, one night, I see a small shadowy figure in their bedroom window…

I thought I’d learned my lesson about trusting the wrong people, but now I’m forced to wonder what this perfect couple are hiding.

And if I try to save that little helpless figure in the window, will I do what I’ve always feared most, and put my beautiful boy’s life in danger…?

Another cracker

KL Salter is my favourite author at the moment and this book didn’t leave me disappointed, another fantastic story, thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait for the next one!

Stretched ending

Good story, well performed, good level of sustained unease and tension. But started to stretch the patience of the listener toward the end with some of the unresolved mysteries. Then all was explained very quickly with an ending which had too much explained by unbelievable behaviours.

Ran out of steam

I have enjoyed a lot of KL slater’s work, but this didn’t work for me. I don’t want to give spoilers, suffice to say ages of characters stated make the story impossible and the major twist was kind of pointless and a bit of a fizzer. A shame because other subplots were great. But it didn’t work for me, too many divergent threads

Oh dear!

I have enjoyed K L Slater's novels, but this was a load of twaddle.

Started well but ending ridiculous

Plot too far fetched to be in any way believable. Narration was excellent, it was the only thing that kept me going to the end.

SO farfetched

Just pointless I'm afraid and so unbelievable unlike others of hers which mostly I've enjoyed but oh dear me not this one.

Loved it

I couldn’t determine the plot, kept me guessing to the very end. Some great twists and turns. Love this author. The Mother I Could have been was super too.
