Thought provoking

Thought provoking. I found myself torn between the two men. I suspect that my choices would have been different to Dawn's. But Jodie always makes you consider the options which is good.

Beautiful story

A wonderful story even for someone who knows nothing about Egyptology!
I agree with some other reviews that the English accent is not great, but it didn’t detract from a fabulous listen.

The Narrator ruined it!

The American was ‘too American’ her English accent irritating to the extreme. It was hard to get past the narration to enjoy the plot.
I’m usually a huge fan of Ms Picoults work, but couldn’t really engage in this one. The fact that the main character found two men to love her so completely, when she was so bland and one dimensional was hard to swallow.
I enjoyed the lessons in Egyptology.

Two confusing ways...

I loved and hated this in equal measure. The overall premise is really interesting and a lot of the detail is too (and there is a LOT of detail). The narrator was ok when she was doing most of the voices but her faux English accent was excruciating (and somebody really should have told her how to pronounce Marquess). I found the whole book very long and drawn out and while I kept going until the end I would never listen to it again. Not sure whether to try other books by this author.

Brilliant

I loved this book. The story entwined with archeology and ancient Egypt was highly entertaining and interesting. I enjoyed the suspense and intrigue surrounding the lives of the characters. A lot of hard work and research went into this book and the result is a great story, beautifully written.

ambitious -- pulls it off :)

This must be Jodi Picoult's most ambitious story. The main themes of time, love and death are clear but there's the underlying grappling with different kinds of faith or beliefs to explain those things too - ancient Egyptian beliefs along with quantum physics etc. It's beautiful and it's very well done. The amount of research that goes into subjects Picoult's books, I feel like they're education as much as that lovely literary escape.

I'd bought this as a hardback when it came out, and had started it a couple of times but I've recently admitted failure to read -- I'm much better at fitting audiobooks into my life so I got this a week or so ago, started it again and used every last chance I had to listen to some more.

BUT... oh my god, the narration was annoying. These are characters that I've got real images of in my head from starting reading the book. Accents are a really hard thing to get right, but if you get them wrong, the characters are absolutely trashed. People should be aware of their limitations, and now audiobooks and podcasts etc have gained so much traction, producers should pay attention to the details. We're still paying to listen to them, so the quality should be important. Listeners should be valued! Finding narrators who can handle the accents -- or using a cast for the dialogue, maybe? -- should be part of appreciating the listeners are paying for this experience. This was beyond dire. it was beautifully read for the parts of Dawn and Win, despite some odd mispronunciations here and there, but for the characters with non-US accents (of which there were plenty) this was awful. Painful. (WHAT ON EARTH IS A T-YOOM?! Yes, some of us Brits say t-yoon for tune but not a single one of us says T-YOOM for tomb.)

Okay read, much longer than it needs to be

The story is far too drawn out, a couple hours in the middle could've ben condensed - I had to persevere to get to the ending.
Jodi clearly did exceptional amounts of research , but this book was a little too much Egyptology for me. Some was interesting but some didn't seem relevant.
I'm a fan of many of Jodi's other novels, but I think this one was missing a gritty issue to really think over. I thought the conclusion was a little too easy on the character too!

Disappointing ending

A great story which was really interesting, with strong characters. Sadly the ending was rather disappointing as it did not give you a conclusion, rather tried to leave it up to the reader to decide. It tried to be clever using the title as 'One of two ways' for the book to end. I would much preferred to see the end relationships develop and conclude. Otherwise an extremely well researched and interesting book.

Not as enjoyable as most Jodi Picoult novels

I enjoyed this in parts, but usually find Jodi Picoult novels enjoyable easy listening with an interesting twist. I didn’t find this quite up to her usual standard. Possibly in part due to the narrators terrible attempt at an English accent for one of the main characters which was really off putting
