Summary

Finalist for the 2023 AUDIE AWARDS® for Thriller/Suspense

The next astonishing thriller from the master of the legal thriller.

Sunday Times No 1 bestseller John Grisham returns to Mississippi in his most gripping thriller yet.

For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, drugs . . . even contract killings. The vice was controlled by a small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumoured to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends. But as teenagers, their lives took them in different directions. Keith's father became a legendary prosecutor, determined to 'clean up the Coast.' Hugh's father became the 'Boss' of Biloxi's criminal underground. Keith went to law school and followed in his father's footsteps. Hugh preferred the nightlife and worked in his father's clubs. The two families were headed for a showdown, one that would happen in a courtroom.

Rich with history and with a large cast of unforgettable characters, The Boys from Biloxi is a sweeping saga of two sons of immigrant families who grow up as friends, but ultimately find themselves in a knife-edge legal confrontation in which life itself hangs in the balance.

In this novel, Grisham takes his powerful storytelling to the next level, his trademark twists and turns will keep you tearing through the chapters until the stunning conclusion.

Not the best Grisham (sorry)

I’ve always enjoyed a Grisham book but I really struggled with this one. It was a chore to finish in fact - it just seemed a bit convoluted. Too many characters, storylines, tedious family history, stereotypes…

Not his best.

Good one to go to sleep with no tension, a meandering story - good narration saved the day but only just.

Stick with it

This book seemed to take forever and I was ready to give up on it several times. That said I am really glad I stuck with it, it’s a long drawn out first half but the second half was typical Grisham and I literally couldn’t stop until the end. Excellent book and well presented by Michael Beck

A long detailed story

It’s a long detailed story, perhaps a little too long, but well told and entertaining. As always the legal entanglements are most the entertaining part of the book.

Enjoyable.

What an amazing tale. Do not miss!

Haven’t been a great Grisham fan in the past, but this has me converted. Love the combination of recent history and fiction.
One really engages with the characters and stays focused til the end. And, believe it or not, this unsentimental beast has to admit to shedding a tear at the end..…
Also, superb narration from Michael Beck. Will be listening out for more from this talented actor.👌🏼

The two different boys play sports together, grew up together.

Bit of a sad defeated ending. Both boys grown to men, had similar endings in the fact they bothe of them experienced the sadness of loss, one his father the other his own life. They chose different paths in life and this is the outcome

Gripping from start to finish

Another amazing and entertaining book by John Grisham who maintains his brilliant storyline throughout which is exceptionally narrated by Michael Beck. May God grant you health for many years to come. Can’t wait for the next book.
