Summary
Finalist for the 2023 AUDIE AWARDS® for Thriller/Suspense
The next astonishing thriller from the master of the legal thriller.
Sunday Times No 1 bestseller John Grisham returns to Mississippi in his most gripping thriller yet.
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, drugs . . . even contract killings. The vice was controlled by a small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumoured to be members of the Dixie Mafia.
Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends. But as teenagers, their lives took them in different directions. Keith's father became a legendary prosecutor, determined to 'clean up the Coast.' Hugh's father became the 'Boss' of Biloxi's criminal underground. Keith went to law school and followed in his father's footsteps. Hugh preferred the nightlife and worked in his father's clubs. The two families were headed for a showdown, one that would happen in a courtroom.
Rich with history and with a large cast of unforgettable characters, The Boys from Biloxi is a sweeping saga of two sons of immigrant families who grow up as friends, but ultimately find themselves in a knife-edge legal confrontation in which life itself hangs in the balance.
In this novel, Grisham takes his powerful storytelling to the next level, his trademark twists and turns will keep you tearing through the chapters until the stunning conclusion.

Hated the narration
I found the narration unpleasant to the extent that I don't know to what extent it has influenced my assessment of the story. I have loved John Grishams books but not this one. These were 2 dimensional characters without depth. the story was too long and repetitive. The characters voices were repugnant. I could not find a redeeming feature and am generous giving 2 stars.

Not JGs best
I nearly gave up on this book after a few hours of listening as it was constant setting of the scene and so many characters that I had no bond with yet to appreciate their history.
When the story did get going it wasn't anything I could get really into initially either, however I did find it more interesting as you could see a story developing.
I have read/listened to all of John Grishams books and this is the first I have been disappointed in. I didn't really like any of the characters, it felt like it was a story told by someone who didn't know the facts, no dipping into emotions properly so you understand and bond with the main characters.
When we did get to the main story it was missing something too, none of the usual John Grisham magic.

Another Great Story
A captivating story that certainly portrayed the atmosphere of life in that part of the US in the 1960’s & ‘70’s.
A very emotional and thought provoking ending - if I had been in Keith’s shoes I really would struggle to make a decision.
As ever great narration by Michael Beck.

Not my favourite Grisham
The narration was rather like listening to a news broadcast. I couldn’t emphasise with the heroes or villains. If your not into baseball or American sport much of the first part is boring. JG was a go to author for audio books , the last two have been disappointing

Awful narrator attempting character voices
I used to be a massive Grisham fan reading all his books but then fell out of love a number of years ago but decided to give this audio book a try.
Wow the narrator trying to put on character voices was just shocking totally detracted from being able to enjoy the book. Just narrate the book fella don’t try and do female voices it was so so bad, like a school boy reading out loud in class to try and impress the teacher. Please sir I want to be an actor don’t you know. One to avoid unfortunately

Couldn’t finish
I’ve never not enjoyed a John Grisham book before so this was a first. I was bored and the narrator just sounded like it was all too much of an effort. Like a monotone barrage of words. Thoroughly disappointed

Very slow, boring and not worth the download time never mind the cost. He’s wrote better stories.

A huge disappointment
I love most of John Grisham’s novels and was so looking forward to this book. However, it just seemed to drag on and, despite the best efforts of the narrator, I soon found this was a story to go to sleep by.
