About this listen

A serial arsonist with a burning desire...

In a country town, an arsonist is burning homes down. Their signature move is placing an identical model of the house on the front porch before setting the fire. But no one is there to witness this in the silence of each dark winter night.

A happy couple is out celebrating their anniversary when they receive a chilling phone call—a recorded children's verse warning them their house is on fire and their children are gone. They race home to an inferno and missing children.

Detective Jace Franco is first on the scene and is confronted by scenes that will haunt him. The couple were good friends of his. And there's something else—a model house near the front door. He sighted exactly the same thing thirteen years ago, at a fire that claimed the lives of a whole family.

Franco becomes certain a twisted killer is at work. But his team is not convinced. The fire is officially deemed a tragic accident.

There is just one other person who saw what Franco did thirteen years ago—Franco's former homicide partner, Kate Wakeland. Can he tempt her away from her new role with the federal police for this one case?

Or will the arsonist continue to destroy the evidence with each of their deadly blazes?

Great continuation of the story

I really enjoyed this series and have listed to most of Anni Taylor’s books.

I love Caroline Lee’s narration, she’s absolutely fantastic. But I’m afraid I didn’t like the male narration. It’s not necessary to have it, Caroline Lee would have been brilliant alone.

Another great story

As always, this is brilliant storytelling with a well-drawn plot, and well-rounded characters. Although the narration is good in terms of bringing the story to life, the accents, and particularly the Irish and Indian ones, are dreadful! Also, the two main female characters sound too similar so it can be confusing at times to work out which is which during conversations. Maybe two different female narrators would help? Overall I really enjoyed this and highly recommend the series.

Good continuation of great series

Have now listened to all of this series so far and enjoyed the characters and stories very much.
However, wasn’t keen on the male narration being included in the mix. Maybe its me, but found it a little confusing in use with the female characters who already had a great female narrator.

My least Favourite

Couldn't really get into this one of the series. As usual the female narrator is excellent, the male narrator had a bit of an odd accent that grated on me. Storyline quite good but just didn't grip me like the others in the series.

complex plot another gripping story

I love this series and hope there will be more to come. I enjoyed listening to the different deetectives' perspectives and getting to know more about the characters. I particularly liked Kate, Franco and Grimshaw. I didn't like the perpetrator's chapters or the voice and would of preferred to erase these.
I've read all of Anni Taylor's books now apart from 1 which is supposedly more horror than thriller so will give that a miss. I have thoroughly enjoyed these and the narrator Caroline Lee..

Felt odd

This was a great book with a very good story line, the one thing that felt odd was having two narrators, personally I would have preferred just Caroline Lee.

Inconsistent and irritating

The narrator’s accents are comical and inconsistent. Abby’s children were 9and under a year old last book but are now 10 and 4! How strange!
These irritations detract from the story
