Summary

Winner, Earphones Award 2020

Five long-missing children are about to be returned.

It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air....

Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one.

All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.

Speculation grows that the mysterious abductor is enacting a cruel revenge plot due to a murderer that Kate put in jail years before.

Kate isn't sure what to believe. But one thing is certain - she's about to begin the battle of her life. When the children were first stolen, she was prevented from investigating the case.

But now, Kate will be relentless in uncovering the identity of the abductor and discovering what happened to Ivy.

Great series

I’ve read some of Anni Taylor’s stand-alone novels and really enjoyed them so decided to try the detective series. I do love a series and this is ranking up there, as soon as I’ve finished this review I’m off to buy the next two in the series

Interesting listen

An interesting story. The plot was a bit unrealistic, but it’s a story after all.

Have to suspend belief but enjoyable

This is a long a book and I’m wouldn’t have chosen it if iTunes not been for the narrator who is one of my favourites and I have loved everything she has read. The story is compelling and challenging due to the subject of children being kidnapped. However the narration brings a tone that overcomes what could be unbearable to listen too. I binged it. Even though the outcome was a little unbelievable, but then so often is life.

was not sure when I added it to my library

but I was not disappointed in the slightest. A brilliant story, packed with well crafted, believable characters. I guess the best review I can give is that I cannot wait to buy the next book in the series.

Really good story

Good story. Well set out, and enjoyable to listen to, right to the end. Would have liked the characters voices to have been a little bit more different than each other in places, but this didn’t distract too much from a good story.

Satisfying Listen

This longer book was so satisfying - it meant that a full conclusion to the story could was presented which I loved. Characters believable and the story/mystery, captivating.
I originally found the narrator annoying but as the story went on, I could hear how skilled she was with all the different characters. but the time I finished the book, I really liked her voice.
