Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Cabin by Jørn Lier Horst.

Jørn Lier Horst is the winner of the 2018 Nordic Noir Thriller of the Year award.

You loved Wallander, now meet Wisting....

It's been 15 years since Simon Meier walked out of his house, never to be seen again.

And just one day since politician Bernard Clausen was found dead at his cabin on the Norwegian coast.

When Chief Inspector William Wisting is asked to investigate he soon discovers he may have found the key to solving Meier's disappearance.

But doing so means he must work with an old adversary to piece together what really happened all those years ago.

It's a puzzle that leads them into a dark underworld on the trail of Clausen's interests and vices. A shady place from which may never emerge - especially when he finds it leads closer to home than he ever could have imagined.

excellent writer, fine translator, flawless narrat

as always with Horst, the feeling of real experience, real detail, and a team that can truly work well together, provide a solid and comforting experience for the reader, as the complex and chance influenced crimes are steadily revealed in the wider frame of the human condition.
I've read almost all of his Horst's crime writing, and enjoyed every one.
Perhaps, if I choose to express criticism, I might say that his daughter (a kind of embodiment of Wisting's feminine intuition and curiosity) gets caught into danger in too many volumes to be believable. He and she should both be able to see what's coming by now!

Excellent

Good storyline, love the main characters. Enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested to the end. No fanciful nonsense, just plain good policing and journalism.

Good story line. Love Jorn Lier Horst's writing.

Don't like the narrator. Every person sounds the same! Go back to Saul Reichlin !!

Good not great

Enjoyable police procedural. Pleasant enough, not challenging, just right for a wet autumn day.

I’ve watched the first series on BBC 7. Now want to compare this audio version with the visual one.

Gripping

An excellent and realistic Scandi detective novel. The plot is tight, logical, with enough twists to throw the reader off course. Beautifully narrated as are others in this first class series. Highly recommended.

The narrator’s dull one tone manner of speaking

I dislike the interpretation of Wisting by this particular narrator. It makes him seem almost one dimensional, very cardboard. Much prefer the books when read by Saul Reiclin. Love the actual book though.

Decent stuff

This is just as well structured as the first one in the series, but because the crimes being investigated are less interesting I found it significantly less gripping. Nicely paced and with some good sequences though, and I'm happily moving on to try the next one.
