Summary
"The scenery description, characterisation, and fabulous portrayal of the hotel on the hill are all layered into a great English trifle."
A missing scientist. A dark and stormy night. A secret worth killing for…
When a devastating hurricane surges toward the quiet island of Jersey, Detective Inspector Graham quickly finds his life turned upside down.
In the wake of the storm, the body of a missing scientist washes ashore. When the post-mortem indicates murder, Graham wastes no time getting down to business. And there’s no shortage of suspects to investigate. A suspicious lover, a clan of angry fishermen, an outraged animal activist… who knew studying sharks could be so dangerous?
Only a single thing is certain; a killer still lurks off Jersey’s windswept shores. And if Graham and his team can’t apprehend the culprit soon, the inspector’s love life may be the next victim…
The Case of the Pretty Lady is the sixth book in this best-selling traditional British detective mystery series with a modern twist. Fans of Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, and CSI will want to share a sip of tea with Detective Inspector Graham and his team as they become like friends.

Great police procedural/cosy mystery
I am a great fan of this series and this book keeps up the standard of the previous ones. I particularly like the way that the characters develop through the series, and that David Graham's backstory and his recovery are revealed.
In this story there are two maritime mysteries to deal with, as well as an apparently paranormal one at a guest house. Needless to say the team handle them all with aplomb.
This is an engaging, enjoyable listen, enhanced by being set on the amazing island of Jersey. Although this is book 6 in the series, it can be listened to as a standalone, but if it is enjoyed after the previous books then the characters are already familiar, which for me makes reading this one a more enjoyable experience.
I really can't think of anything to criticise about this audio book, the narration matches the quality of the writing to deliver a great listening experience.

A stormy mystery
Oh boy! I must admit this book was a lot of fun and like a fish I was hooked until the very end. It really felt like we were being treated to a glimpse of what it is like living on a small island and all the perils involved, from either the weather or humans. There was a lot going on with three situations unfolding, so even after the hurricane had blown its self out you (or should I say the characters) still didn't get a chance to take a breath and I loved every minute. The story is told by multiple characters but this really works for the story as each character has there own part to play. I just love the characters and can easily picture the series being turned into a tv series. I can't wait for the next book.
With the worst storm to hit the small island of Jersey in years, the last thing Detective Inspector Graham needs is a missing persons case. Heading out in the hurricane to rescue people refusing to leave there home is bad enough, especially when a blogger reports that the police aren't doing enough. But then the body of the missing scientists is found and it turns into a murder investigation. With the island still unsettled after the hurricane and reports of strange happenings coming in Inspector Graham soon finds out the storm isn't over. The fishermen are not happy and not staying quite about it, then one of there own also goes missing. Can Graham and his team find a killer? and uncover what happened to the missing fisherman? Calm the fishermen and stop a blogger from causing more damage than the hurricane?
I liked the narrator. He has a good range of voices and knows how to use his voice well to bring the story a special spark. The use of sound effects adds to the magic.
