Summary

50th anniversary audiobook version of the official history of BBC Radio 4's classic comedy series I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue—one of the UK's most popular and long-running radio shows, which has featured the best British writers and comedians of the past half century, including members of Monty Python, The Goodies, Stephen Fry, and countless others.

"Jem manages to write about popular cultural institutions with knowledge and affection, while avoiding the dismal traps of nerdy fanboyism on the one hand or grandiose cultural pseudo-intellectualism on the other. His research is flawless and the results are readable, illuminating and delightful." (Stephen Fry)

Back in 1972, people had never heard of Samantha, Sven, nor Mrs. Trellis, and had no idea of the rules of Mornington Crescent, nor what points are for. The year 2022 marks 50 years of radio insanity—of the nation's finest comic minds being given silly things to do, with some of them set to music.

Celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the greatest radio comedy of all time, the antidote to panel games, with the epic and exhaustive, fully authorized history of both I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Againthe groovy youth comedy explosion of the '60s—and its beloved spin-off, I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue.

Originally published in 2009 in full collaboration with Graeme Garden, Humph, and the Teams, plus Jon Naismith, Sir David Hatch, John Lloyd, Simon Brett, Stephen Fry, Colin Sell, and so many of the greatest comedians of the last half century or more, this audio bible features an all-new update on everything Jack Dee and the Teams have been up to in the last 14 years.

Presented in special tribute to David Hatch, Geoffrey Perkins, Humphrey Lyttelton, Jeremy Hardy, Iain Pattinson, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Jo Kendall, and Barry Cryer.

“As Bibles go, I reckon THE CLUE BIBLE is among the top two.” (Graeme Garden)

Circus Life

Lots of interesting/useless historical information about a long-running strand of British comedy, occasionally spoiled by the author/narrator's mispronunciations of several words - mostly names.

Say goodbye to the misery of cluelessness !

If you are a Clue enthusiast,and/or obsessed with British comedic history to the degree where some form of family intervention might be appropriate, then this is the book for you! A bumper book of facts and fun that will warm the cockles, performed ably by the OCD author.

I'm Sorry It's Brilliant

It's a fantastic book from start to finish. The history and background to one of radio's greatest shows. If you are a fan of this fine institution, or just a fan of great comedy history in general, then this is for you. Absolutely brilliant.

Pronunciation issues

I have heard Miriam Margolyes name pronounced in several different ways.
This narrator managed three different variations in a single paragraph.
Considering that he is also the author and had actually interviewed the lady in question, one would have thought that he would have asked.

A bit rambling

Got this because of my love for Clue, and while I realise it needs the background of ISIRTA (which I also love) I was hoping it would be more in-depth/longer on the Clue aspect. The narrator doing accents is also a little distracting when he does those involved, but works a bit better for script extracts (more so on ISIRTA than Clue)

Cheated

I stupidly supposed from the cover that this book contained material from the performers illustrated
