Summary

YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE....

Kate Irving arrives at her grandfather’s cottage at Frenchman’s Creek in the dead of night with her young son, a small suitcase and little else. Its scattered community of fishermen, farmers, artists and jetsetters barely bat an eyelid, because theirs is a rarefied world, tucked beneath the lush forest that lines the banks of the Helford Estuary, deep in the heart of Cornwall, where life is slow and people generally mind their own business. Unless, of course, your grandfather happens to be a pillar of the local community....

Kate’s left the past behind and guards her privacy and her son fiercely. She’s wary of accepting the friendship her new neighbours offer, but their kindness is too great to refuse and she begins to feel she has found her place in the world. That is, until tragedy strikes, and her new friends look to her for the answers....

Kate soon learns that the past always catches up with you, in the end—the question is, will she be able to face it, when it does?

Suspense is peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced mystery, set amidst the spectacular Cornish landscape.

A pleasant story if predictable.

It started off really well, but I felt that as it progressed the author took the easy path. The background (the death of the main characters parents) was skimmed over and the perpetrator and motivation were very flimsy. The ending felt rushed. Not the authors normal style.
Having said that it was an easy read that I enjoyed listening to it on Audible. I liked the main characters and the setting by The Creek.
Not the author's best, but I will continue to read her books.

Nice little story, nothing dramatic but ticks along nicely

Enjoyable little story, with a sweet romantic undertone. Nothing overly dramatic, although I feel there were a few gaps in the plot.
I didn’t mind the narrator Clare Corbett at all and thought her interpretation of the characters was very good. Overall i think this book is worth a listen.

Came included in membership. Good introduction to the author and narrator. I enjoyed the story and found myself keen to know what was going to happen next.

good enough to finish but wouldnt read again

I thought the narrating was alright (the accents did slip in and out but it didnt effect the story) ive just turned a different title off less than 10 mins in because the narrator was cheese grating my nerves, so the fact i kept going till the end is a plus.
story was quite predictable and characters a tad cliche but honestly i did enjoy it. im told her other books are better so ill give those a go.

Not a bad little romp

This was a decent book if you weren’t expecting too much. It wasn’t challenging and I got the ‘who done it’ pretty early on. Still it’s a nice easy going holiday type read.

Rather Chick Lit

A version of a story told many times….with a Cornish type accent. Not for me.
