Summary

The gripping new thriller from the Top Ten Sunday Times best-selling author, shortlisted for the Irish Crime Book Awards 2020

Rumours.

Everyone’s heard the rumours about elite gentlemen’s clubs, where the champagne flows freely, the parties are outrageous...and what goes on behind closed doors is darker than you could possibly imagine.

Scandals.

Paige Hargreaves was a young journalist working on a story about a club for the most privileged men in London. She was on the brink of exposing a shocking scandal. Then she disappeared.

Secrets.

DS Maeve Kerrigan must immerse herself in the club’s world of wealth, luxury and ruthless behaviour to find out what happened. But Maeve is keeping secrets of her own. Will she uncover the truth? Or will time run out for Maeve first?

A fantastic series

I have now read the whole series and preordered the next one, I have enjoyed them immensely, the character development, the plot the twists. This is latest and although stand alone I recommend you read them all. I found I could not stop listening and found myself listening with AirPods whilst my husband slept. I was unsure that all the procedures were accurate but it’s a novel. Great narration lovely to listen to you will not be disappointed especially riveting is the relationship between Maeve and Josh and the true to life ‘bitchiness’ of the office. The one thing I found is sometimes Maeve is too nice and I wanted her to fight back verbally.

Wow!

This is my first book by this author and I’m delighted there is a long series to enjoy. The narrator is excellent too. The book deals with violence against women in different situations. In other hands this could have been laboured, gratuitous or even exploitative. The handling of the various storylines is brilliant - sensitive, empathetic and forensic. The characters are so convincing and the world is really credible. I may have to go straight to the next one in the series or start at the beginning…

left wanting more.

This is by far one of my favourite series. I'm eager for the next book to be released, and hopefully it'll finally get to the conclusion we've all been waiting for. Waiting, I'm good at that.

Gripping story

Loved this book and the whole series. The narrator is one of my favourites too. Could listen to her narrate the phone book. Highly recommend all round.

Loved the story

Not keen on the narration - sounds so robotic, no warmth whatsoever.
The story itself was really good.

Irritating narration

I’m enjoying the story but not the narration. The voice doesn’t match the character in my opinion and, worse than that, the emphasis on the wrong words makes me think the narrator hasn’t taken in the meaning of the sentence before reading it. The result of this is that I can’t lose myself in the story so easily. Unfortunately this can’t be detected from the sample of narration.
