About this listen
Morse switched on the gramophone to 'play' and sought to switch his mind away from all the terrestrial troubles. Sometimes, this way, he almost managed to forget. But not tonight...
Anne Scott's address was scribbled on a crumpled note in the pocket of Morse's smartest suit.
He turned the corner of Canal Street, Jericho, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 3rd October.
He hadn't planned a second visit. But he was back later the same day - as the officer in charge of a suicide investigation....

Well narrated, improves story
Samuel West is rapidly becoming one of my favourite narrators. He never overdoes the dialogue, and any regional/national accents are subtly portrayed, never caricatural.
I didn’t watch many of the TV adaptations (I hate ad breaks, for one thing) but I know Oxford well enough to picture the setting.
Dexter’s plots do tend to be complex, in the traditional way, and I am glad to find a new series for bedtime listening, engaging but not too challenging and lacking excessive carnage and horror.

Old school detecting
Always loved Morse and prefer the book version of Lewis to the TV one.

Enjoyable story
Having read all the books I wanted to try them on audible and so glad I did. The narrator made the story easy to listen to.

Deadly writing
Now I’m remembering why I don’t have all the Morse stories in my library. Dexter’s writing is enough to spoil my happy memories of the lovely BBC series with John Thaw of blessed memory In the title part. Bah! What a shame. Beautifully read by S West, who even pronounces Italian and Latin well. Wasted on this tripe.
