Summary
In the present, an old fisherman is found dead by the shoreline and a stranger with a mission moves into a shabby Kinloch flat.
Meanwhile, D.C.I. Jim Daley is trying to help Brian Scott stay sober, and the good people of Kinloch are still mourning the death of one of their own.
As past and present collide, Daley finds himself face to face with old friends and foes. Memories can only last as long as those who keep them, and ghosts will not be silenced.

Shadows from the past and murder in the present
I bought the audio version of this book and, as anticipated, the narration throughout is superb. Having read and listened to this series, I much prefer the audio version because it adds a whole different dimension to the story and characters.
I’ve waited eagerly every June for the next in the series and picked up the additional short stories. I’ve yet to be disappointed by the quality of the plotting and the development of the characters. Denzil Meyrick is one of a handful of authors who has maintained a series exceptionally well; no plot contrivances for convenience or formulaic writing. Every one is a winner.
There are echoes from book 9 in which one of the recurring characters died. Although this works well as a stand alone, it’s a series which really does work best if read in order. I’ve grown to love the central characters. Jim Daley and His DS, Scott. Both have demons. But they’re not held down by the baggage and they’re distinctly different characters. They play off one another, with Scott’s gruff and dark humour along with malapropisms making him feel real. I have mental pictures of every character and the location.
This tale is a real mix of people from the past, themes from earlier stories and both Daley and Scott trying to rebalance and move on with their lives. Their respective wives are central to the character development and unusually, the personal side of the tale doesn’t detract from the crime story. I feel a part of this strange little Kinloch community; it takes a talented writer to create a seemingly real world for readers to invest in. Meyrick has done it. This is a cracking addition to the series and won’t disappoint.

Simply Brilliant
Another cracker by Denzil Meyrick. DCI Daley along with his hilarious and brave sidekick DS Brian Scott discover that their past has arrived in Kinloch. Wonderful characters, brilliant storyline and a good helping of 'Brianisms', what more do you need. Roll on Book 11.
As always this book has been brought to life by David Monteath's excellent narration.

One of the best
This story is excellent. Humour, gallows type at times, horror crime, Glaswegian culture and wit combined with excellent portrayal of the characters by the narrator. Great writing and one to beat.

First disappointment of this series
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the series, I’ve listened to every book. This is the first one I’ve got to the end of and felt nonplussed by. The storyline was farcical, feels like the author has run out of steam.

The Dynamic Duo are Back
Again another funny, sad and well written book. I absolutely love Scott and Daly.
All the stories in each of the series follow a similar pattern but because of the relationship between the two detectives they’re not boring and feel predictable.
This, I found, was the funniest of the series but also tinged with sadness and I have to admit I cried.
Fab books that are brilliantly narrated which makes a huge difference to an audiobook

Excellent
Excellent as usual. Denzil Meyrick has done it again. Such a fabulous plot, I was gripped from the first chapter. I absolutely love Kinloch and its' residents, I feel as though I know them all and I didn't want the book to end. Cannot wait for the next in the series .

WELL WORTH THE WAIT
Is it just me, stuck here in Campbeltown waiting for the next instalment of the goings on in Kinloch...thanks for another excellent book beautifully performed by David Monteath as usual.

Poorest book of the series
Very disappointed
Not up to the standard of previous books
Seemed to now be a tired formula
And perhaps Jim and Brian should seek retirement

Disappointing
I enjoyed Book 9 in this series, but I'm only half way through Book 10, and am very bored. I will give it a bit longer, but may not bother finishing it, So far it's rather bleak and far too much rambling dialogue and foul language. The plot jumps back and forth, and is rather confusing, especially in an audio book, as you can't easily quickly refer back to see who is who. The narrator is good...the book is not.

Going over old news
Brilliant narration as ever but the story is a simple hash up of old news. A story made predictable by being told at least three times in his previous books. Come on Mr Meyrick let’s start something new.
