Summary
In the village of Cronchie, a wealthy family are found brutally murdered. The Devil Stone, an heirloom rumoured to bring death if removed from their home, is the only thing stolen. The key suspects are known satanists. But when the investigating officer disappears, DCI Christine Caplan is pulled in to investigate.
Caplan knows she is being punished for a minor misdemeanour when she is seconded to the Highlands, but she’s confident she can quickly solve the murders and return home to her fractious family. But as she closes in on the truth, it is suddenly her life, not her career, that is in danger.

Brilliant listen/read
Have really enjoyed all of Caro Ramsay’s previous books and this is just as good. Great start to a new series. Very well read.

Good story- poor narration
Another Caro Ramsay, yippee! Sadly let down by narration. If a tale is set in Glasgow, with trips around Scotland; the characters have Scottish names and Scottish words are used, then why in the name of the wee man would you use an English narrator with a variety of comic Scots accents. And an inability to pronounce placenames, names and general text. I found myself just listening to the voice and having to rewind regularly to try to concentrate on what was happening. Good story, well written, though. I just hope the next one has a competent narrator.

struggled to finish
I found this book very boring in places and struggled to finish it. It only came alive in the last few chapters. Pity, it had the makings of a decent book. I won't be buying the next in the series.

Boring!
Boring story read by a boring narrator. I usually love Caro Ramsey books but this is one big yawn. I’m returning this audio book it was so bad.
