Summary

Winner of the British Book Awards, TV & Film Book of the Year, 2007.

A sharp, witty, and hugely entertaining debut novel which has just been made into a Hollywood feature film, The Devil Wears Prada is The Nanny Diaries set in the world of high fashion. Welcome to the dollhouse, baby!

When Andrea first sets foot in the plush Manhattan offices of Runway she knows nothing. She's never heard of the world's most fashionable magazine, or its feared and fawned-over editor, Miranda Priestly. But she's going to be Miranda's assistant, a job millions of girls would die for.

A year later, she knows altogether too much. She knows, for example, that it's a sacking offence to wear anything lower than a three-inch heel to work — but there's always a fresh pair of Manolos for you in the accessories cupboard. That Miranda believes Hermes scarves are disposable, and you must keep a life-time supply on hand at all times. That eight stone is fat. That you can charge cars, manicures, anything at all to the Runway account, but you must never, ever, leave your desk, or let Miranda's coffee get cold. And that at 3 a.m. on a Sunday, when your boyfriend's dumping you because you're always at work, and your best friend's just been arrested, if Miranda phones, you jump. Most of all, Andrea knows that Miranda is a monster who makes Cruella de Ville look like a fluffy bunny. But also that this is her big break, and it's going to be worth it in the end. Isn't it?

Book is good Movie is great The audio amazing ..

Like most I've seen the movie once, years ago when it was released, thought is was a delight ..
Year's later brought the book, read it on a vacation, loved it ..
Though nothing prepared me for just how outstanding, this audiobook is ..
The narration by Laurel Lefkow, an absolute joy ..
I loved every word ..

good overall

good overall, but not as good as the film
Lilly's character had more depth, and was more likeable
however Andy was less likeable in some respects (i.e. a smoker!)

Never thought I'm gonna say this - but the movie was way better

The story was a bit boring, I understand that I was the idea of the story but at some points sounded like a to do lists.

Also, I didn't like the natation at times - the vice and the reading was nice atost times but I nearly had a heart attack every single time the narrator yelled to exclaim things. So that wasn't pleasant.

One of rare cases when movie is better than book.

It started so well however towards the middle I found myself getting bored with all the little fashion details. Nonetheless, a fun story.

Awesome read

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was a great read.It was very funny, I also really enjoyed Laurel Lefkow's narration.
This is a review from my 12 year old daughter, she couldn't stop listening to this even though she was meant to save it for holiday reading. I will get around to reading this...

*Choices*

**3.5 Stars**

This is about a feared and revered Runway magazine editor Miranda Priestly. She is a no nonsense, unreasonable, impatient and everything must be done in seconds kind of person.

Andrea goes for an interview as a junior assistant/lackey to Miranda and gets the job but is quickly learning that working for her is more than a full time job. It takes over her life and what spurs Andrea on is that this job could possibly be a stepping stone to her dream job of going into publishing and it is for only one year. As everyone says it’s a job that “anyone would die for”

Andrea starts to change and not in the best way, all her relationships are suffering such as her boyfriend, best friend and she never calls or sees her family, this is because she fears getting sacked. The job is all about image and even the heel heights are compulsory wearing anything lower than 3 inches you are out.

When her closet friend is in the hospital due to a serious accident while Andrea is working for Miranda in France her family expect her to quickly hop on a plane.
Andrea is thinking of work and her commitments is she doing the right thing? Can she keep up with Miranda’s intolerable behaviour or will she wake up and stand up for herself….

Not as good as the film but still enjoyable

I'm a big fan of the film so was curious if the book would be as enjoyable. It was ok but not something I'll listen to again.
