About this listen
When there is gold then there will be those who wish to take it. If the gold is aboard a ship then there will be pirates. Thomas is a former slave who has become a gunner on a Spanish galleon. His life is no less parlous than when he was a slave but through courage and determination, not to mention more than a little luck, he becomes successful and joins Francisco Pizzaro as the conquistador conquers an empire with less than 200 men.

Great adventure story
Same great Griff Hosker storytelling, different location. I usually opt for Viking or World War II stories but was intrigued and gave this a go. I was not disappointed and I was impressed with the narrator as well. With Griff Hosker, you can't put the book down or, in this case, you can't stop listening. You just want to keep going where the story takes you.

Another greatly enjoyable book.
Overall an interesting and fun book. Never really has any boring parts. About 10 times during the book, the narrator starts the first few words of a sentence, and then repeats the words but with different emphasis. Not a big deal and doesn’t take out the flow of the storytelling, but funny.
Most of the side characters are almost identical in personality and likability, and everyone seems to just adore the main character. I liked that we followed a young Inka warriors rise a couple times, to get a unique insight and context for the officers facing our main character. A cool perspective.
