About this listen
The Mighty Shandar, the most powerful wizard the world has ever seen, returns to the Ununited Kingdoms. Clearly, he didn't solve the Dragon Problem, and must hand over his fee: Eighteen dray-weights of gold. But the Mighty Shandar doesn't do refunds, and vows to eliminate the dragons once and for all - unless sixteen-year-old Jennifer Strange and her sidekicks from the Kazam house of enchantment can bring him the legendary jewel, The Eye of Zoltar.
The only thing that stands in their way is a perilous journey with a 50% Fatality Index - through the Cambrian Empire to the Leviathan Graveyard, at the top of the deadly Cadir Idris mountain. It's a quest like never before, and Jennifer soon finds herself fighting not just for her life, but for everything she knows and loves...

"Highly recommended. Very funny" (Independent)
"[Fforde's] ripping yarn of magic in decline mashes up the usual spells-and-beasts motif with a satire on corporate cash and tabloid values." (i)
"This year's grown-up JK Rowling" (Sunday Times)

Jasper Fforde, endlessly inventive, always fun.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely, but it is not a stand alone, you do have tk read them all. Each story builds wonderfully on the last.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Eye of Zoltar?
It has to be the ending, read it and see if you saw that one coming? The last book in the series is going to be very interesting.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
saying what happens to stuffed tourists, well you would won't you
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Again the ending and the realization, of what is actually going on. And the did they didn't they survive moment.

Great book with strong characters
The book was well read by Jane Collingwood. I very much enjoyed this book, although I would have liked the story to carry on instead of ending where it did.

another great story, fast pace, giggling when you really shouldn't and a very soothing voice from the narrator.

Mostly splendid
Any additional comments?
This narrator and these books are a brilliant match. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first two because I found one or two of the accent choices rather odd, but mostly, brilliant.

So you want to write book 4
Still hilarious but it felt like it should have been longer and instead it was chopped in favour of another book!

Such fun!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Such an entertaining story, well read. I would suggest listening to the earlier books in the series first as they build on each other.
What did you like best about this story?
It is unusual and the world is fully realized.
What does Jane Collingwood bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The reader gets it just right.

Love this
I recommend reading all three books in the series in order (I hope there will be more). If you enjoy Jasper Fforde's other books, these will not disappoint. If you haven't read Jasper Fforde and you like slightly wacky fantasy, read these.
Jane Collingwood's narration is brilliant, she has such a mix of voices that she brings the characters to live.

Amazing
Brilliant story, brilliantly read. Totally exciting and with more twists and turns than a twisty-turny thing.

Fantastic
Jennifer Strange is in charge of a collection of magical people at the age of 16. She is willing to put herself in the line to help both them and her friends. This book takes her further into danger than she has been before. It is amusing, sad and deals with many strong and powerful emotions. I loved it.
