Summary
Vienna Stratton knew she only had herself to blame. You didn't let yourself become indebted to a man like Dane Davenport, no matter how badly you needed his help. As his personal assistant, she was very aware that the globally successful CEO was ruthless and unforgiving.
Of course, if she'd known he'd request that she be his wife for 12 months, she'd have hesitated in accepting his help. Because what she'd learned from Dane was that the devil wasn't ugly and terrorizing. He was seductive and captivating. He hummed with whispers of temptation - the temptation to sin and surrender, to let him brand and possess you. He awakened every need and fantasy you had.
He could even make you love him.

A great contemporary romance
The Favor is a contemporary romance with a more than healthy dose of Suzanne Wright’s usual wit and snark. I smirked and I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. I loved Vienna’s attitude and Dane is smoking hot and has that dark brooding intelligence.
Both main characters have people in their lives that have reason to separate these two well before their anniversary. There are suspense filled moments and moments that made me swoon a little and I was awake well into the early hours listening as I just didn’t get to a point that felt it was a good time to put it down and go to sleep.
There are some wonderfully steamy NSFW moments but the story isn’t erotica. It is a sexy romance that is cleverly written and whose characters back stories are complex and very well developed. I get the feeling that Suzanne knows her characters before she starts their stories. It is not only the main characters that have that amazing level of development, the surrounding family and friends are every bit as interesting and Vienna’s neighbours were responsible for more than one unexpected laugh escaping.
The Favor deals with some serious mental health matters and I love the way that she portrays mental illness. The knowledge, compassion and representation show something that I rarely come across in books that are not mainly about the condition.
The wonderfully talented Samantha Cook narrates the whole book and she recognisably represents the different characters, their moods and attitudes.
The listening experience of The Favor was five star across the board.

I am impressed
Finally I have found a story that doesn't have a ditsy idiot as the female and the generic cavemen for the male character.
The story is basically from the viewpoint of a personal assistant who marries the boss to help him get the inheritance from his uncle....which turns into love and a HEA with some trouble along the way (the typical plot of a love story). Instead of just one big area of trouble there's a lot of little ones too that help you see parts of the character's personalities (like when she's nearly hit by a car, he saved her but she grazes her hand.... He ever so gently cleans her wounds and patches her up as if she is incredibly delicate to him.
There's also some saucy scenes.... Not as "kinky" as other books, but he's definitely a dominant male in and out of the bedroom and a few of the scenes have decent descriptions of what they're doing.
The background of the characters all show different types of abuse and their behaviour /personalities aren't "normal" due to that fact. So there's signs of mental growth and I love the way that the writer has dealt with the different situations /mental health issues. Also showing how different people react to the different types of problems. This impressed me to be honest.
The performance of the narrator is spot on and if I had to make any sort of complaint then I'd probably say that it was difficult at times to decifer which male was talking (they sometimes all sounded exactly the same).
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I'm sad to say that I've finished it. So I'd definitely recommend that you give it a go. I just wish that I could have more 😊

Great book
I absolutely love Suzanne Wright’s books and this one is no exception. She has departed from her normal paranormal/shifters books with this one but she still injected all of her normal traits: strong and witty female heroine; alpha male; drama; sex and funny interactions. It is an east story.
I love the female voices but I don’t think she did the male voices well. Maybe, in future, having 2 narrators (male and female) would be best.

Faked turns out to be real
Again an amazing book from this author. The heroine is on and off insecure of her self and the deal she made.

Superb!
very nice read, smart characters a good story. Love the strong female roll model that doesn't let anyone step all over her, something that make the story more interesting.

Such a heartfelt story with marvellous narration✨
I had an incredible time listening to this story. I loved learning about these characters, their struggles, their trauma, how it shaped them and their interactions and relationships with people. It felt so real. There was so much heart in this story and was wonderfully told. The narrator, Samantha Cook was absolutely fantastic! She had such a lovely voice which I think perfectly suited the main character. She was consistent throughout and I could honestly listen to her all day. Highly recommend!
