For seventeen-year-old Tylia Coder, survival is all she knows. With virus mutations continuing to spread, Tylia must either watch her ailing mother be ravaged by illness or hack her way into the terrifying Acceptance trials and face the infected world above to save her family.

But the life she envisioned is far from reality when she’s rescued by a mysterious stranger from the resistance, and everything she believes about Farrow Corp, and their handsome advocate assigned to her, is turned on its head. Good value YA dystopian science SF entertainment.

The first benefits of this listen are: you get the three full books in the GEOS series (The Acceptance, The Labs and The Elite) in one go and in the correct order with a consistent narrator. Ramona Finn has built a dystopian world post pandemic virus which has divided humanity into three groups: the GEOs who survive underground; the Elite who live in the sky and have many priveleges and the self-nominated Rejects who live on the surface and reject the technologies employed by the Elite to dominate the GEOs.
In the first book we meet our 17 year old heroine, Tylia who's motivation is to save her mother who is sick from the poor conditions of being perpetually underground. She goes through a test of survival as those who are successful get to join the Elite with their luxuries and priveleges. In this process she also encounters and is romanced by the sons of the two leaders od the Elite and Rejects. She experiences internal and external conflicts. Her mission expands to save all humanity and not just her parents.
The second book tells us more of the origin of the schism and the life amongst the elites. We also learn the selfish secret behind the virus origin and the real motive of the technocrat leader. Fair amount of action, peril and dilemmas for our heroine.
The third book tells of Tylia fulfilling the prophesy from the first book and how she resolves her choice between the two men competing for her favour. More action, peril and twists with an adversary who almost always seems at least one step ahead. Chaste romance, self discovery, values and moral compass and partial redemption are themes running throughout the trilogy.
The narration did cope with different characters and attitudes of the speakers. Initially, I was irritated by the narrator rhyming the Farrow name with pharoah rather than barrow, but given the behaviour of the main character with this name the pharoic title was appropriate.
There is a plot hole in the science part of the SF and the ending was too predicatable in Tylia's choice so I have deducted a star for the story.

Enjoyable but similar

Right of the bat I am not the target audience but my daughter who is, and I listened to this on a recent road trip. It worked on both our levels and very reminiscent of the hunger games and maze runner which I have watched with various of my teenagers and recently my daughter.

I got frustrated with some of the characters but again I am not the target audience.

Great dystopian vibe

I was happily surprised with this series. The reading is good, and story very entertaining and full of turns and shifts. I liked the world-building and the grey characters. Sometimes funny, sometimes heart-wrenching, reading this book with let you got through the whole emotion rollercoaster. The dystopian vibe is good, and really, you're in for a treat.

Captivating!

This was my first Ramona Finn's book, and won't be my last. This boxed set includes the three full novels in The GEOs series: The Acceptance, The Labs, and The Elite. This is a fantastic dystopian thriller series. There are some similarities with the Hunger Games and the Divergent, but the storyline still is original, unique, and captivating. The characters are well developed, and mysterious. Tylia is such an amazing character, strong, smart, and determined. The cast of supporting characters is impressive. The storyline is fast-paced, intriguing, and complex, filled with danger, adventure, mystery, and twists and turns. This is a captivating series. Alexandra Hunter did an outstanding job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice, and a great range of voices.
