About this listen
A dark, twisty psychological thriller about the unyielding bond between two sisters and a secret that will break them.
'There's only been one time that Rose couldn't stop me from doing the wrong thing and that was a mistake that will haunt me for the rest of my life.'
Fern Castle works in her local library. She has dinner with her twin sister, Rose, three nights a week. And she avoids crowds, bright lights and loud noises as much as possible. Fern has a carefully structured life and disrupting her routine can be...dangerous.
When Rose discovers that she cannot fall pregnant, Fern sees her chance to pay her sister back for everything Rose has done for her. Fern can have a baby for Rose. She just needs to find a father. Simple.
Fern's mission will shake the foundations of the life she has carefully built for herself and stir up dark secrets from the past, in this quirky, rich and shocking story of unexpected love.

Brilliant read
I have only just discovered Sally Hepworth's books and I am a big fan having read the Mother In Law and now The Good Sister.
Whilst I think it was fairly clear where the conclusion of the story was going from about half way through, this did not in any way detract from my enjoyment of reading the book.
The characters are very well drawn and I thought the Fern character in particular was very entertaining to read and I also loved the interaction between Fern and Wally. The pace was good and the story really held my interest. A real 'page turner' to find out how things would play out. A satisfying conclusion to the story - Highly recommended.

Loved it but….
Really enjoyed all of it apart from the final chapter. Really wish I hadn’t read that one. Aside from that it was a fabulous listen

Really good!
Well narrated. Barrie is so good at bringing the text alive. Really enjoyable story. Loved the main characters and even though I have 6 month old twins I stayed up until after midnight to finish it! That has to be a recommendation

Another gem
Good narrator and the story nicely paced. This is the third book I've enjoyed from Sally Hepworth and I will listen to more.

Great
I really enjoyed this book.
My only one critique (spoiler) is where Rose's ex husband at the end says he thinks Rose has Borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder.
I definitely agree with the latter, however, as a sufferer of BPD, I feel that assumed diagnosis just adds more stigma to the illness which already has a lot of stigma attached as it is.
Yes, manipulation is a potential trait of BPD but people with BPD can also be incredibly loving and kind hearted. Struggling to regulate one's emotions and a fear of abandonment are key traits of BPD and it really is a horrible illness to live with.
Rose is definitely a narcissist though.

unique and gripping domestic thriller
This is my first book from this author and narrator and certainly won't be my last for either. A unique and gripping story of dysfunctional sisters and the lengths one will go to in order to destroy the other.
Fantastic!
