Summary

Vita set her jaw and nodded at New York City in greeting, as a boxer greets an opponent before a fight.

Fresh off the boat from England, Vita Marlowe has a job to do. Her beloved grandfather Jack has been cheated out of his home and possessions by a notorious con man with Mafia connections.

Seeing Jack's spirit is broken, Vita is desperate to make him happy again, so she devises a plan to outwit his enemies and recover his home.

She finds a young pickpocket working the streets of the city. And, nearby, two boys with highly unusual skills and secrets of their own are about to be pulled into her lawless, death-defying plan.

Katherine Rundell's fifth novel is a heist as never seen before - the story of a group of children who will do anything to right a wrong.

I loved it!

As a middle-aged woman, I'm not at all embarrassed to say I loved this book. Margaret Cabourn-Smith is a wonderful narrator, and the story was beautiful. I've gone on to look at more books by this author

The Good Theives

I think this audiobook is great for listening to whilst doing art doing work etc . Listening to it at bedtime is also good but there are a few parts that might scare younger children. I’m sure any adventurous people, animal lovers or people whose dream is to fly will love this audiobook and I really recommend it.

Superb Storytelling

Katherine Rundell is a master storyteller and The Good Thieves is just that - masterful.
How many books are there for 8-11 year olds that are set in 1920s prohibition era New York, featuring the mafia?
Not many, and there’s a reason - it’s hard to write about, but Rundell smashes it out of the (Central) Park.
A story of strength, love, family, friendship and being on the fringes. Vita and her friends are beautifully rounded characters who embark on a lightning paced heist storyline, that has wonderfully placed moments and is one of the most unputdownable (?) books I have read in a while.
Bravo!
