About this listen
An intelligent, inspiring audiobook about the author's quest to find purpose with profit for his company, helping listeners with businesses of all sizes to see the value of ethical policies and "doing it right".
Learn how to green your business from one of the UK's leading corporate activists.
Can you reverse climate change and promote social justice while generating a profit? Richard Walker shows you how it's both possible and valuable to "do it right".
Walker runs a £3bn business that is affecting real change in the most unlikely but critical sector: the supermarket. From restricting single-use plastic to eradicating palm oil from products, his quest is to find purpose with profit for his business. In this intimate, challenging and encouraging audiobook, he explains how you, too, can make genuine progress on sustainable initiatives while being realistic about profit margins, and obligations to customers and employees.
The Green Grocer offers clear-sighted experience and inspiration for any business, whether a large corporation, a kitchen-table start-up or a sole trader, to make a difference.
Richard Walker is the managing director of Iceland Foods, a company that has led the way with ethical business practices in the UK since the 1980s. Richard is at the forefront of the sustainability conversation, being a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a member of the DEFRA Council for Sustainable Business, and a trustee of several environmental charities. He is a panellist on BBC's Question Time and star of Channel 5's recent TV series Inside Iceland.

Works very well in audio book format
Information was very well sourced and referenced. I may have found some dryer paragraphs a dull read but the nature of an audio book makes it easy to tune in and tune out and not miss any of the staggering truths ( e.g there are now more food banks in the Country than branches of McDonald's) A life changing read. I will be going out of my way to avoid plastic in my shopping basket from now on.

Inspiring and educational
For business leaders and managers who may be overwhelmed or fatigued by decisions, this provides help and guidance.
Well written and delivered by Richard Walker himself, this is an easily digestible view from a credible business leader.
You’d be daft to pass this one up!

Aspirational in bits, but very close to the truth
Richard Walker is the type of guy you could just spend time listening to, but he has worked his way up the family company since starting at the lowest level. His actions are based on what he has found out, thus the motivation to do something is real - even if a solution does not currently exist. Iceland is a great barometer of the financial health of the nation as it caters more for those at the bottom end of the financial scale; the Government would do well to pay closer attention to those whom the policy decisions mean that they could be juggling between eating or not. You feel better that not only does Richard care, but he is actively doing something about it...

More of a magazine article
Decent listen but was more about plastic pollution than than business, whilst that could be my misunderstanding of the books purpose whilst purchasing here on Audible the actual book is a tad preachy and more of a magazine article than a book in the way it comes across.
would have liked to hear far more about Iceland and Richard's story so far.
