Summary
One of The Sunday Times' Business Books of the Year
Artificial intelligence is smarter than humans. It can process information at lightning speed and remain focused on specific tasks without distraction. AI can see into the future, predicting outcomes and even use sensors to see around physical and virtual corners. So why does AI frequently get it so wrong?
The answer is us. Humans design the algorithms that define the way that AI works, and the processed information reflects an imperfect world. Does that mean we are doomed? In Scary Smart, Mo Gawdat, the internationally best-selling author of Solve for Happy, draws on his considerable expertise to answer this question and to show what we can all do now to teach ourselves and our machines how to live better. With more than 30 years' experience working at the cutting-edge of technology and his former role as chief business officer of Google [X], no one is better placed than Mo Gawdat to explain how the Artificial Intelligence of the future works.
By 2049, AI will be a billion times more intelligent than humans. Scary Smart explains how to fix the current trajectory now, to make sure that the AI of the future can preserve our species. This book offers a blueprint, pointing the way to what we can do to safeguard ourselves, those we love and the planet itself.

Critic reviews
"Technology is putting our humanity at risk to an unprecedented degree. This book is not for engineers who write the code or the policy makers who claim they can regulate it. This is a book for you. Because, believe it or not, you are the only one that can fix it." (Mo Gawdat)
"From a brilliant mind comes a terrifying prediction." (Tim Ash, bestselling author of Unleash Your Primal Brain)

Thought provoking stuff
I enjoyed this book. It’s certainly very thought provoking in our current “scary” world. The underlying message that we are the ones who are creating the climate of online negativity by the way we interact with it, we can equally teach it to be a force for good
I love listening to Mo Gawdat’s voice too!

compulsory reading for everyone
ii didnt have a clue about tech and how it's made so this background into artificial intelligence was a revelation to me. We should all learn about it as it can literally reshape the world as we know it. some scary stuff there but hopefully nature prevails before our stupid kind brings ourselves to extinction.

Great book
Opened up my thinking around AI
It got a bit wordy towards the end and could have been summarized by 100 pages but overall fascinating approach with great analogies and great examples

Eye opening stuff
Mo clearly comes from a place of incredible insider knowledge having worked as the Chief Business Office at Google X. This book looks into the direction of AI travel and how it will change the world.
Well structured and articulately written it gives the reader a peek inside Silicon Valley’s Pandora’s Box and helps us prepare for the ‘inevitables’.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS
Possibly the best and most important audiobook I have ever listened to. I have concerns about the future and the threat of AI, this book is absolutely on point. As Chief Business Officer at Google X, Mo Gawdat knows his stuff and is able to breakdown his reasoning, thoughts and implications to everyone. Please read/listen to this and spread the word!

A truly interesting and enlightening book.
As with everything, and even presented by the author, this book should be read/listened to critically, but with an open mind. The message is clear and one that is relevant and urgent not just in relation to AI but to humanity in general. Don't believe everything you read, but definitely hear it, think about it, and make an informed opinion.
