About this listen

Young FBI agent Chevie Savano arrives back in modern-day London after a time-trip to the Victorian age, to find the present very different from the one she left. Europe is being run by a Facsist movement known as the Boxites, who control their territory through intimidation and terror. Chevie's memories come back to her in fragments, and just as she is learning about the WARP program from Professor Charles Smart, inventor of the time machine, he is killed by secret service police. Now they are after Chevie, too, but she escapes - into the past. She finds Riley, who is being pursued by futuristic soldiers, and saves him. Working together again, it is up to Chevie and Riley to find the enigmatic Colonel Clayton Box, who is intent on escalating his power, and stop him before he can launch missiles at the capitals of Europe.

good follow up

Takes book one further without diluting the pace or story.
Well read and looking forward to book three.

Good story but some epic mistakes

Would you try another book written by Eoin Colfer or narrated by Maxwell Caulfield?

I'd buy his books because they are generally well written using up to date thinking and theories in a fun and entertaining way

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was reasonable leaving the door open for futher episodes

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The use of practical magicians tricks within the storyline was a great way of demystifying the story and making it almost believeable

Do you think The Hangman's Revolution needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

it has to have a follow up book - there are so many time parallel possibilities it would be a shame not to use them - and there hasn't been a conclusive end to the time distortion of interfering with the time line in the first place

Any additional comments?

Eoin is generally good at keeping things plausible but his love scene in this just didn't add up, A woman in complete darkness using night vision equipment can see the eyes, hair and physique of the man she is about to fall deeply in love with and of course he can see her eyes, face, hair .... even though she is in complete darkness and is wearing night vision equipment - it just went a bit too far into the oops we do not have real continuity here - surprised the editor didn't pick this up

Second in the series

This book probably doesn't work that well as a stand alone and so I recommend reading the first in the series before reading this one.
I enjoyed this. We start in the future, but things are not what we expect and it soon becomes apparent that the events of the previous book have had a negative impact. It isn't long before we are back in 1899 and we meet some old and some interesting new characters and Riley and Chevie are still at the heart of the action.
I think this is better than the first in the series with a lot of action, a lot of character interactions and a good sense of the Victorian world.
The Narration was very good and the whole package was great fun.
Overall 4 stars
Performance 4 stars
Story 4.5 stars.

A decent sequel

This was an entertaining follow up to the first book in the series, dealing very thoroughly with the themes opened in the first book. One slightly odd development is required in order to keep the new story on track, but this was acceptable in the circumstances.

The tone of this book seemed to alter at around chapter 12, when a tense situation dissolved into comedy. It was amusing, but humour detracts from tension and diluted the suspense. Some of the subsequent twists and turns led my mind to start imagining the characters in the cartoon form, as this seemed more accurate as things became less 'realistic' as it were.

So overall it was good, enjoyable and I expect I would buy the next in the series too, yet the first book was obviously better.

The narration was excellent, although there were a few points where the acoustics seemed to alter as if re-voiced in different conditions, so a slight production issue there.

Slightly disappointing follow up

I was really looking forward to the follow up to WARP. I love the Artemis Fowl books and they never went stale. This sequel, while still imaginative, worked hard in places to keep up with the pace and humour of the first book. Still an enjoyable read but not as great as I was hoping.

Eoin Colfer does it again

Great 2nd book in the WARP series. It races along with lots of twists and turns, same characters with some good additions. Max does a great job in narrating and voices. Fab ending I could never have guessed. I need to get book 3 now !!
