About this listen
Number one best seller
I’d go anywhere for her....
Even to Kingmakers, the most brutal college in the world. Where mafia heirs are trained to control, dominate, infiltrate, and kill.
I followed Anna because she’s my best friend. I’ve always been right by her side.
She needs me to protect her. Especially from Dean Yenin, a Bratva heir with a lethal grudge.
He plans to take everything from me. Starting with Anna....
The Heir is the first book in the epic dark mafia Kingmakers series. It’s a forbidden friends-to-lovers romance filled with mystery, suspense, and sizzling-hot bedroom scenes that take place everywhere but the bedroom.

Young Love
Love love this Author. Never know what too expect and again I wasn’t disappointed.
The narration was great.
Can’t wait for the next book to be released on audio, thank goodness it wasn’t left on a cliffhanger but that epilogue was H O T.

So good.
Kingmakers is where Mafia heirs are trained and it’s brutal . This book follows Leo Sebastian’s son as he follows Anna to Kingmakes to protect her . You just know there’s going to be conflict as Dean Yenin is also there and his Dad has poisoned his mind towards Sebastian’s family. I love the Brutal Birthright series and listening to their offspring stories was excellent . I listened to an ALC of the audio and the narrators Gregory Salinas, Chloe Ryan & Michael Gallagher were excellent .

Captivating Mafia Listen
The Heir is book 1 in the Kingmakers series, a second-generation spin-off series from Brutal Birthright and Underworld Series. You do not need to read those first but like with any series you will gain better enjoyment having that previous knowledge and knowing the parents of Anna and Leo.
Kingmaker Academy is a school for mafia kids, an elite place to learn how to weave together mafia life and the real world. It was an intriguing world full of angst, mystery, and action giving an intense rollercoaster of a storyline. A friend to lovers romance as Anna and Leo were more like cousins and knew each other very well with a lot of ow/om drama as it's told in 3 POV - Anna, Leo's and Dean's. The audiobook was a great listen and I really enjoyed the narrators.

My Thoughts on The Heir
I was excited to start this book having really enjoyed the original Birthright series. After finishing this first one in the spin off I feel it’s shaping up to be just as good. And while I loved getting to see the couples from the original series through their children’s eyes and to see how they’ve grown since their books; I was just as excited to get to know this next generation. Those I get to meet in this book certainly didn’t disappoint. I don’t want to give to many details, because I feel like this book might be best just jumping in with little to no forward knowledge. And the blurb doesn’t give much away so I’m taking my que for this review from there. I will say I loved the friends-to-lovers trope the author through in. And I loved the direction she went for the POV. I also felt there were some really intriguing secondary characters that I hope to see much more of in future books in this series. The storyline is well paced and for a longer story it certainly had no trouble holding my attention and bringing me back for more every time I did need to put it down. I also really liked the narrator choices for this story. The guys were both voices I’ve heard and enjoyed before, but the female narrator Chloe Ryan was new to me. I liked her tone just as much though and I felt like each one was a good fit. Overall, I just really loved this story, and I can’t wait for more.

The Heir
Audiobook review. What a great start to a new series! I love the concept of the school and it definitely establishes the perfect setting for future stories.
The transition from best friends to lovers wasn’t easy for Leo and Anna. They hit more than a few bumps along the way but I did feel that they grew as a result of those experiences. This was definitely more of a slow burn for the main couple but I was equally engaged throughout the entire story.
I both loved and hated Dean’s POV. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into his motivations and experiences. As well as a better understanding of his awareness and transformation. His adverse actions escalated and he was the primary antagonist of the story BUT there was something about him that I couldn’t quite fully commit to hating. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing more of his growth and (hopefully) redemption in book 3.
I would’ve liked to see more development on the apparent misunderstanding and miscommunication between Leo and Dean but I suspect (and hope) that element may have been saved for Dean’s own story.
Secondary characters were used effectively and established well enough that I am looking forward to reading more about them in their own stories.
Chloe Ryan, Michael Gallagher, and Gregory Salinas absolutely knocked this performance out of the park! The quality of the audio as a whole was consistent, even on the higher speeds I prefer.

Awesome start to the series
The Heir by Sophie Lark, Book 1 of The Kingmakers Series.
Performed by Gregory Salinas; Chloe Ryan and Michael Gallagher.
This is the start of the Kingmakers Series and is about the offspring of the Brutal Birthright series . This book is about Anna Wilk; Leo Gallo as well as Dean Yenin.
These three were sent a letter outlining their acceptance into the Kingmakers school where all of the offspring of every illegal faction learns their craft at a specialized school. Anna and Leo have been preparing for this chance for so long. Who knew there is a specialized school where the students can and do study all aspects of being from a criminal family. There are groups of individuals from the Mafia; the Bratva; the Irish mob, that include groups who want to rip each other apart but this school won’t allow for it. If a person is caught doing so, then they should prepare themselves for retribution in the form that they subjected upon another. A kind of situation where its truly an eye for an eye or a life for a life if a student is maimed or injured or killed. This is serious business. The writing is descriptive and places you in amongst the students as if you were one of them yourself. Just as in the previous series of their parents there’s so much happening here that one can help themselves from being immersed in it all. This book is just the first school year and what a thrilling adventure it already is.
Anna and Leo grew up together and dreamed of attending this school together. They’re thick as thieves and like family throughout their lives yet that changes when they’re stuck on the Kingmakers school grounds. Then we have Dean come in who creates friction between Anna and Leo. There’s wickedness that abounds in this freshman year for these three and it’s still to be determined if Dean will succeed in his determination to bring down his cousin in a vendetta created in past actions on both sides of the family.
The narration is amazing, Chloe, Michael and Gregory create an enticing story that will keep you reaching to hear more, I’m so excited to see where Sophie takes us next in this series and I can’t wait for the next book!

Welcome to Kingmakers
I have previously read this whole series but came back for the audio. Every Kingmakers book was a 5 star read for me and the audible version is even better.
The narrator's bring the characters and the emotions to life. I was sucked straight back into the Kingmakers world and loved every minute.
There's friendship and angst, enemies and danger. I love that the book has 3 narrators it gives you more insight into how everyone is feeling and let's you see things from multiple perspectives.
This one is a little more slow burn than the rest of the series but it still features some very steamy scenes. I will definitely be back to check out the others as they release.

Love Leo and Ana
Leo and Ana have grown up like they were cousins… but they are not blood related. When they go to Kingmakers, they are close…. Circumstances.. mostly manipulated by Dean… separate them for a time. Neither of them are happy without the other.
Can they over all of the things thrown their way? Or does Dean win out in the end? This is very worth the time it takes to listen. Chloe Ryan, Michael Gallagher and Gregory Salinas are excellent at what they do and did an excellent job with this story!

fabulous
loved the charactors, its a shame Dean (dmitri) can't get over himself, did he really believe a woman would want his unwanted advances if she didn't have the feelings that would be required.

Loved, loved, loved this book!
First of all, I’m a huge Sophie Lark fan. Her books are always full of drama, love, lust and humor. This series takes the young love, friends to lovers trope and turns it on its head.
Anna and Leo grew up in organized crime families, and rather than opt for traditional college they choose to go to Kingmakers. Kingmakers is a remote college for the offspring of organized crime who plan to go into the family business. Anna and Leo were raised by two interconnected families, so they are the closest of friends. Anna is a dancer, eccentric in her dress and at her best when she tests herself. Leo is touched by good looks, extreme athleticism and natural charisma. Both decide to attend Kingmakers together.
The students are instructed to put family rivalries aside while at Kingmakers. Chemistry class is probably about lethal poisons or bomb-making. History focuses on crime families and their roots. Students come from all over the world with the intent of learning how to be smarter, better criminals in their world.
While both Anna and Leo can feel their relationship shifting into something more than friends, Leo’s cousin and rival, Dean decides to make taking Leo down his personal mission. Dean’s attention and pursuit of Anna tests the bonds between Anna and Leo as they navigate young adulthood in a college-type setting. The Kingmakers will test their endurance, intelligence, and sometimes, their survival.
This book is a great combination of young adult, college, mafia romance all rolled up into one. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to listen to the next in the series.
