Summary

Solving a murder way too close to home, Alison Kerby can't catch a break.

If Alison Kerby really wanted peace and quiet, she never should have opened the Haunted Guesthouse. The Jersey Shore lodge's latest polter-guest is Richard Harrison, the recently murdered brother of long-time resident ghost PI Paul Harrison.

Alas, a beyond-the-grave brotherly reunion is nowhere in the foreseeable future - phantasmal Paul left the guesthouse months ago for parts unknown, and for all her ghost-whispering prowess, Alison has no idea how to find him. And she's going to need Paul, because Richard's isn't the only murder still unsolved.

Richard, a lawyer in life, tells Alison that he had been working the case of a woman accused of murdering her stepfather. When Richard got too close to the truth, he was permanently silenced. Now, as Alison searches for Paul, she gets a creeping sensation that the murderer doesn't appreciate her snooping around. If she doesn't succeed in her hunt, she has the feeling that she'll be the next to haunt the house.

I've really enjoyed these books

they're a bit silly, a lot far fetched. But extremely enjoyable, I've even paid for two of them!. i read a lot of serious books and horror, this is a nice change 👌

The hostess with the mostest

I just love this series and this instalment is no exception. At book nine the characters are just getting better and better. You never know where the author is going to go next or what the characters will be out though. You can expect a good mystery, ghostly high jinx and a good time. I love the characters, both the living and the dead and the interactions between them, be it investigating, putting on a spook show or even playing body guard to alive people. Not sure I would want to stay at a haunted guest house but it is certainly fun listening about it. The mystery was complex with many layers but comes together nicely, I never did come up with the right answer. Off for my next stay.
With the resident ghost Paul finally able to travel, Alison never thought she would be putting an add in the local paper asking him to come home or putting her investigators hat back on. But that is exactly what she does when Paul's brother turns up asking for help. He was murdered but he doesn't want his death investigated, instead he wants his client kept safe. As a lawyer he was trying to defend a woman accused of murdering her step father but he knows she didn't do it and wants his brother and Allison to prove it. The only way to do that is by investigating both deaths. Can they find the killer?
I like the narrator. She brings life to the story, even to the ghosts.

Less interesting plot, equally lovable characters.

This story did not get me as engaged as previous ones in the series, but I really enjoyed being back in the middle of the family's everyday tribulations. Great prose, great reader, great experience overall.

I want to stay at Alison’s guesthouse!

Absolutely brilliantly written, narrated and engaging. Lots of detail. Every character and loose end is explained, brought to life and dealt with wonderfully. The narrator couldn’t be more spot on for the way she delivers the stories. The humour is great and the plots very good. I can’t get enough of these stories.

I just love this series!

Once again, another book from the haunted guesthouse finished. It’s such an easy book to listen to, light hearted, I enjoy the plot of the book and even some of the funny quotes characters say.

The narrator brings the story to life with different voices and I just believe her to be Alison Kirby now.

Great book series.

a good 'read' !

very formulaic but fun anyway. A light hearted detective romp with a difference. There nothing spooky about these books so if you want a fright these books are not for you.

Hostess

Enjoyable audio book, but actually too many characters to keep track of. Narrator did a marvellous job once again and if this is as disappointed I'm going to be, I count my self VERY lucky! A very good series!
