Summary

Their rise, fall, and rise again is the story of England during the fifteenth century, a dramatic century of war, intrigue, and scandal both at home and abroad.
This book uncovers the rise of the Beauforts and tracks their fall during the 1460s and 1470s. The hopes and fortunes of the family gradually came to rest upon the shoulders of a teenage widow named Margaret Beaufort and her young son Henry. From Margaret would rise the House of Tudor, the most famous of all England's royal houses and a dynasty that owed its crown to the blood of its forebears, the House of Beaufort. From bastards to princes, the Beauforts are medieval England's most captivating family.

Could not finish it
This has nothing to do with the author or the book itself but I just could not listen to this any more. As I didn't finish, I couldn't give accurate ratings. I listened to about half but the narrator is just not great and boring. I couldn't focus on what I was listening to and just found myself tuning out and start thinking about other things and just not looking forward to hitting play again. So I have given up and moved on to another book which is a shame, I absolutely adored Nathen Amins other book about the Tudor Pretenders and very much looked forward to this. I will probably try and pick up a printed version of this book and read it.

A compelling and thorough dissection of the changing fortunes of the Beaufort family
I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Nathan Amin, who is currently THE expert on Tudor Wales and the origins of the Tudor dynasty. I wanted to learn more about these origins and was not disappointed. This book has clearly been thoroughly researched and is a comprehensive dissection of the Beaufort family, their changing fortunes and their central role in the development of the Wars of the Roses. On the whole the narration was good, the only reason I marked the performance as 4/5 was on account of several clunky edits. However, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of a well-written version of this cracking story. Well done, Nathan

Excellent material paired with an awful narrator
Nathen Amin’s research is absolutely fascinating, and something that is most welcome to provide more context for the Wars of the Roses and the Tudor dynasty. I would just recommend buying a physical or e-copy of the book, as the narrator is stunningly incompetent. Pronunciations of names change from chapter to chapter, which is incredibly unhelpful when you’re trying to follow the stories of everyone involved.

Couldn't deal with the narrator
Really wanted to love this - maybe I'll buy a physical copy. Nothing wrong with the writing, but I couldn't deal with the narrator. There are so many great narrators out there - maybe this will be re-recorded with another one.
