Summary

Disgraced detective turned private investigator, Ray Clancy, left the force with a case unsolved. Finding the killer was no longer his problem, but it still haunted him. How long would he survive the frustration of not knowing before he gave into the compulsion of his nature to solve the crime?

Server Andrew Shay existed where he didn't feel he belonged, living behind the guise of a costume. Yet it paid the bills, and he refused to complain about the little things in life. One night he returned home from work to find his roommate dead and the killer still there. Afraid and alone, his life spiraled, and he didn't know what to do. Could a detective at his core and a scared young man join forces to bring down the killer in their midst?

A good collaboration from Dabney and King

The Hunt is co-authored by J.M Dabney and Davidson King and is a story about a serial killer targeting young men. When Andy stumbles into the killers path but escapes, he turns to ex cop, now private eye Ray, to protect him and help find the killer.
All in all this was a good thriller and hopefully the beginning of a new series of books with these two authors as there is plenty of scope within the characters to explore.
The narration was good, Kirt Graves who narrated Andy was excellent as always. However it is only the second time I have heard Tor Thom, I love his deep sexy voice but at times he sounds so laid back when narrating he sounds bored.
I would like to be able to review dual narrators individually i.e. Give one 4 stars and one 5 stars. It seems a shame that when rating the narrating one narrator has to suffer because of another.

a little predictable but good narration

I enjoyed this book and the characters but it was the good narration that really made me keep listening. the story was a little predictable and there were no twists, but it made for an easy, enjoyable listen

Perfect mix of murder mystery and gay romance

I loved this book and engaging with the characters was effortless and the story was clever and not “ fluffy “ written well and I enjoyed it enormously

Painfully average

The beginning was promising. It sounded like the story was going to be serious for once, and not just serve as window dressing for the smut. It is better than some other MM detective stories I've come across. Unfortunately, the bar for MM stories is low, so I was happy about the little things. The main characters, for once, weren't supermodels with washboard abs. The tone of the story seemed serious. Slightly stereotypical with the police who don't care about the "poor", but still, it felt like there was going to be some good mystery.
Unfortunately, the story falls apart quickly. There wasn't any actual detective work done. It's just a random collection of corrupt policemen, gang members and other randoms who talk and do things, but nothing smart or interesting happens. Everyone is also gay, which is rather silly even for the MM story. The villan and his silly motive was just the final nail in the coffin. It felt like a stereotypical drama written by a teenager.

Very good listen

I really enjoyed the book. I found the story to be very interesting. It kept me guessing about some things until the end. I also liked the narration from both narrators. I thought Tor Thom was good as the detective, cool and calm, unexcitable. Who wants a detective who wears his emotions on his sleeve? I thought Kirt Graves was good as well. He was really good as Andy and did thoughts and emotions well.

MM Murder Mystery

I’ve been listening to a lot of Davidson Kings audiobooks lately and loved everyone of them . I really enjoyed listening to this and found another new author in the process .
