Summary
Sometimes you have to let your heart rule your head....
Cherry, Maggie and Rose are mother, daughter and granddaughter, each with their own hopes, dreams and even sorrows. They have always been close, so when, in a moment of impulse, Cherry buys a gorgeous but run-down pub in the village she grew up in, it soon becomes a family affair.
All three women uproot themselves and move to Rushbrook, deep in the heart of Somerset, to take over The Swan and restore it to its former glory. Cherry is at the helm, Maggie is in charge of the kitchen, and Rose tends the picturesque garden that leads down to the river.
Before long, the locals are delighted to find the beating heart of the village is back, bringing all kinds of surprises through the door.
Could Cherry's impulse purchase change all their lives—and bring everyone the happiness they're searching for?
Escape to the glorious Somerset countryside with this joyful and uplifting story of family, love and hope.

Heartwarmingly gripping, the awesome book will move you!
The first time I’ve heard of Veronica Henry, was when my wife told me she had bought a book to keep her company while I work away!
This book is… I’m not qualified to say masterpiece. This book is bloody brilliant, fast paced, relatable and energising!
My wife and I have loved listening to it from opposite sides of the world, talking about it, confessing how important taking a risk is!
From my family to yours thank you Veronica (and team)! You have made being detached that little bit more bearable!

This book is just beautiful the characters and descriptions make me want to go and find the 3 Swans and live in Rushbrook .The narrators voice was calm and soothing like velvet . Have enjoyed so many of Veronicas books but this is my favourite .Really hope we catch up with them again in the future .

Everything you hope it will be!
What a glorious book! I knew it would be as soon as I remembered that Veronica is the author of The Beach Hut books … she creates such interesting angles and real depth to her people and their lives, yet they give you just as much instant pleasure as simpler books but with a great deal more to come!
The entire premise is wonderful: 3 incredible women, developing at different rates and in original ways. One incredible project that quickly binds them all together.
And an incredible village - which could be one of so many British villages - but it’s simple but essential pleasures are the underlay for this warm, funny, endearing family and the people around them.
If the story outline interests you don’t hesitate to choose it; it’s beautifully read, in exactly the way you want it to be, with each person perfectly voiced and easily recognisable. I kept making myself stop it so I could savour it for longer, even leaving the last 16 minutes to accompany my tea tonight. It even turned out to be exactly the right amount of time for me to enjoy my peanut butter and breadsticks!

Struggled
I really really struggled with this book and wanted to give up on it many times but the raving reviews made me want to see it through till the end.
The Narrator had a lovely voice, yet at times I found it very irritating, a little TOO sweet perhaps !!
I didn't feel the characters came to life untill very late into the story. I'm glad I finished the book but it's not one I'd particularly recommend.

A great story of family love.
This was a realistic story of a family touched by tragedy and their way through.
The various characters stories are told and woven through the book very pleasingly, it all flowed well.
A lovely gentle story of tough, gentle women.
The narration was good.
