Summary

Introducing the new, unabridged version of The Infirmary by LJ Ross, the author of the international number one best-selling series, the DCI Ryan Mysteries.

There's a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end. When the chief inspector on the case goes missing, it falls on DCI Ryan to track down the man who is brutally murdering women and goading the police to 'catch me if you can'.

As everyone becomes a suspect, Ryan and his team get drawn further and further into the case, but for Ryan the nightmare gets closer to home than he could ever have imagined.

You can also listen to the multicast original drama starring Tom Bateman, Hermione Norris and Kevin Whately here.

Good prequel

This is a prequel to handbook holy island and introduces the killer The Hacker. The tension builds very well to a frantic ending for DC Ryan. I love this series and the characters , sergeant Phillips is so funny, he is my favourite character. The setting is in Newcastle which is another bonus for me as I love that part of the country. The narration is excellent and good story line, if you enjoy detective stories with strong characters you will enjoy this series.

Good listen!

It was a bit confusing at first, and I must admit I went back into my library to check what number book it was, then read some reviews and everything became clear. Once over the initial confusion I soon settled in to another great book by LJ Ross, being from the northeast - I always love hearing different areas being mentioned, especially in this one were they mentioned my home town Jarrow 💚

Gripping

Whilst this is a prequel it was still a blooming good read.
The story of Ryan and Keir Edwards is woven through all the books but to read the full story just adds another layer of understanding.
Don't skip it in the series thinking you know the story because there's so much more to it 🤔

This should have been the first book LJ ross wrote

Brilliant writing as we expect from LJ Ross, however completely ruined by doing it as a prequel.
As a rule I personally hate prequels. Don't get me wrong I am really happy that she did an entire book on the Ryan vs Edwards plot BUT writing this whole book when it's the eleventh one in a series was a mistake. It would of been better to have had the extra details in High Force as flashbacks or memories.

There is no proper gripping mystery to this book as we know whats going to happen & what the main story points were. If you are a new reader I would highly suggest this be the first book of the DCI Ryan series you read.

Anyway the positive's, Jonathan Keeble - what can I say but another brilliant performance.

I am so happy that he & Audible did his version as well as the drama. Personally I was put off the drama as the voices weren't appealing so I didn't want to purchase it. When I say the pre-order for this with Jonathan I was very excited. Can't wait for the next one!

Prequel to “Holy Island”

I am listening to the books in order and this is number 11, but is actually the prequel to the first book. It doesn’t give anything away so would strongly recommend reading this one before Holy Island. I wish I had! I felt a bit disappointed when I realised it wasn’t a continuation from book 10.

What a pity

It is an excellent book but it has been a CRIME to allow it to be announced as Book 11 in the series. It MUST be shown as a Prequel or even Book 1 with the others renumbered accordingly. To those of us who have worked our way through the series to this point would, very much in my case, find this a difficult listen having been given the outcome in official Books 1 to 10.
So all I can say is, what a pity.

Great Suspense

This is an excellent thriller, very well narrated. Lots of twists and turns that keep you focused to the very last page.
