Summary
In the vein of The Time Traveler's Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times best-selling author V. E. Schwab's genre-defying tour de force.
When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality. But there's always a price - the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone. Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken. Existing only as a muse, she learns to fall in love anew every single day. Until one day, in a second-hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her. Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can't escape her fate forever.

This is why words exist
Books are made of words, words that if in the write order can make us feel things. Make us understand. I haven’t met many people masters of the art of writing as great as V.E. Schwab.
Books like this give me hope that the art of writing will never fail to move me.
I will always remember this story, I will always remember Addie.

Intriguing, unique but over long
I read this on a recommendation by someone who loves the author. My immediate impression was it was intriguing and unique. The story had many possibilities and there were lots of clues as to where it could go. I enjoyed the world of Addie’s thoughts and hopes, and I felt her emotions with her. She is a lovely character.
However once I got the idea; the story hook - it then felt drawn out and I was willing it to conclude, nothing new was coming up and I just wanted to know how it ended. I even speeded it up, something I have never done before on a audio book.
If you are looking for something different then this is a good read, the writing style is very mesmerising and there are some good references to the arts, history and folklore which give the story good bulk. It just felt very drawn out.

If only I hadl cried. I would've wept an ocean.
A Poignantly Beautiful story and so beautifully narrated and brought to life by Julia Whelan. I cannot stress enough how much I loved listening to this story. It was possessive, obsessive, destructive, passionate, heartbreakingly sad and heartwrenchingly tragic. I couldn't stop listening to this story, I couldn't help hoping against hope for the outcome I so wanted. This is not a story of good against evil but a story of temptation and hope when you are at your absolute last grasp of life. It's a story, No. It's a lifetime's saga of a choice once made in desperation and the indelible affect it has on a Soul.
