About this listen
Finding plant-based recipes? Easy. Dealing with the social, cultural, and emotional pressures of being vegan? That’s the hard part.
Motivated by a desire to eat more healthfully or live more ethically, many people choose veganism as a logical and sensible response to their concerns about animals, the environment, and their health. Yet, despite their positive intentions, they’re often met with resistance from friends, family members, and society at large. These external factors can make veganism socially difficult - and emotionally exhausting - to sustain.
This leads to an unfortunate reality: The majority of vegetarians and vegans revert back to consuming meat, dairy, or eggs - breaching their own values and sabotaging their own goals in the process.
Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, known as the “Joyful Vegan,” has guided countless individuals through the process of becoming vegan. Now, in The Joyful Vegan, she shares her insights into why some people stay vegan and others don’t. Understanding that the food is the easy part of being vegan, Colleen turns her attention to what she believes is the most challenging - dealing with the social, cultural, and emotional aspects: being asked to defend your eating choices, living with the awareness of animal suffering, feeling the pressure (often self-inflicted) to be perfect, and experiencing guilt, remorse, and anger.
In this audiobook, Colleen shares her wisdom for navigating and overcoming these challenges and arms listeners with solutions and strategies for staying confident with family and friends, creating healthy relationships, communicating effectively, sharing enthusiasm without evangelizing, finding like-minded community, and experiencing peace of mind as a vegan in a non-vegan world.
By implementing the tools provided in this book, you will find that you can live ethically, eat healthfully, engage socially - and remain a joyful vegan.

It's alright
Starts off really well, mentions a load of truths. But then gets preachy then she starts with some weird cult like chant thing. I feel it's more suited to your stereotypical over happy person rather than a grumpy old person. Try it.

Interesting FREE listen
I am glad I listened to this as it was a very good listen. Came up with a few points to make me think. It was a bit too American for me. Some text was a little sexist and outdated. I do recommend as a free listen but wouldn't have paid for it.

Being vegan myself I found this book a bit too “propaganda” but it’s only my humble opinion.
If you’re not vegan or vegetarian and don’t know anything about the meat industry or the animal mistreatment in the world this book will teach you a lot

Exactly what I needed!
I became vegan only recently and once I had opened my eyes to the reality, changing my diet was no hardship at all, quite the contrary. Partly because of that, I have felt resentful and angry with the world, our governments and even my friends. This book is helping me to make sense of my feelings and cope with the fact that most people don’t see things the way I see them, but it’s okay. I can still inform them without being judgmental and hopefully plant some seeds of goodness and compassion.

A Must Read, Very Mood Boostig
This book is an incredible guide to navigating the social side of being vegan; telling friends and family, having discussions, tolerating vegan jokes. I found it massively helpful and it made me hopeful for the future.

Awesome! A must read for Vegans or those interested in Veganism.
I loved this book, it held all the answers I had been looking for. Colleen is inspirational, uplifting, fabulous and the book is full to the brim with the information required to navigate a non-vegan world with grace, compassion, enthusiasm, gratitude and kindness, as a vegan. Thank you Colleen.
