About this listen

Dublin 1899: Lawyer Joseph Radcliffe and his black American comrade Benjamin Pierce were 'Buffalo Soldiers' together; now Radcliffe defends the toughest cases in a troubled city.

In South Africa the Boer War rages and after an argument with his father, Joseph's son, Edward, runs away to join the forces. When Edward is captured and held as a spy, Radcliffe and Pierce set off to find him and bring him home. In doing so, the old soldiers find their survival skills tested to the maximum....

Romantic Irish story !

Good story showing a insightful part of history that the Irish people took t in, for good or bad.

I will be interested to know more about this subject, and the influence the Irish had in South Africa.,

ripping yarn

loved the descriptive language, I could envision the scenes perfectly. The narrator had a good pace and could mimic well the accents. storyline is an old fashioned ripper from start to finish. it left me wanting more of Radcliffe and Pearce, is their one about their Buffalo soldier days?

Good book but difficult to listen to

This book has some of the hallmarks of the other Gilman books but I found it difficult to listen to as the narrator used the same tone for scene and character speech.

Just couldn’t get in to it

I’ve listened to a lot of Gilman’s other books and loved them. I just couldn’t get in to this one and gave up after an hour or so. The characters were confusing, the narrator unclear and the storyline simply dull. Very disappointing. If I could send it back I would.
