Summary

From the acclaimed New York Times best-selling author of All the Missing Girls comes a suspenseful new novel about an idyllic town in Maine dealing with the suspicious death of one of their own....

Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbour community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors.

Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl - but that's just what happens with visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable - until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can't help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie's brother, Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they're saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her.

Another thrilling novel from the best-selling author of All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger, Megan Miranda's The Last House Guest is a smart, twisty listen with a strong female protagonist determined to make her own way in the world.

Enjoyable and gripping

Overall, I enjoyed the audio book but found the shifting of dates and the way it moved to and fro somewhat confusing at times. The story itself was gripping and kept me engaged and guessing throughout, although I had my suspicions as to the guilty parties quite early on. The air of suspicion was well built up and it was difficult to know who to trust.
The narrator's voice was quite sharp at times which grated on me occasionally. I think it would have been better if she could have developed more varied 'male' voices, as they all sounded similar to me,

Ok

I am not sure if this book was actually intended for the young adult category.

she said

initially I got fed up with the narrator but the writer has added " he said " or "she said" after EVERYTHING. which is annoying but I enjoyed the story. little bit predictable but would listen again.

Sadly I lost interest

I think because I didn’t really like the main character, or any of the others particularly, and therefore didn’t care what happened to her, I struggled to keep going and just lost interest sadly.
