About this listen
The Life She Wants is a suspenseful psychological thriller with a twist. Perfect for fans of Catherine Ryan Howard, Ruth Ware and Lisa Jewell.
You want to save your marriage. She wants to destroy it.
Paula worries that her marriage to Tommy is hanging by a thread. She loves how safe her husband makes her feel, but lately, it seems like he’s pulling away from her, and he keeps avoiding a much-needed conversation about finally having children.
When Tommy suggests a cruise getaway for the two of them, Paula is thrilled. He’s fighting for this marriage, and he’s even promised that they will talk about growing their family. It’s Paula’s dream come true. Until the couple meets beautiful Anna.
From the moment Anna appears in their lives, things start to go wrong for Paula. She finds herself trapped in a sauna. Her hair is destroyed at the salon. Money goes missing from her cabin. At first, Paula thinks she’s paranoid in suspecting Anna is turning her dream holiday into a nightmare. But soon, it becomes clear that Paula may not be the only woman fighting for Tommy’s affections.
How far will Anna go to get what she wants? What lines will Paula cross to protect her marriage? And whose dark past will return to destroy them first?

Far fetched story
The book opens and developes well. It holds one's interest despite the characters not being very appealing or easy to identity with. However there are increasingly far fetched events and hard to believe situations that stretch one's credibility. The last part of the book unfortunately moves into a different gear which is even more implausible. It also becomes rather confused as it rushes to an abrupt concluding twist that is in my opinion, most unsatisfactory!

A little disappointed
The story line flitted from one character to another and the narrator didn't make it obvious as to which character it was she was reading about by using her voice. The story had a twist at the end but it apart from that the rest of the story was predictable.

Annoying and unrealistic
Random and OTT, I knew what was coming, even though the main character didn't, even though ridiculous things kept happening to her! I also got the impression that her husband couldn't give a stuff about her anyway and there was no connection between husband and wife! would have been better if they were a loving couple!
Unrealistic that the 'villan' booked herself onto a cruise in the hope that she could steal a man she had never met from his wife that she had never met, marry him and get his money, house etc, only from an overheard conversation and from looking at facebook, all a bit feeble. There should have been more of a connection storyline towards that! also she was made out to be a dainty elfin female, yet she managed throw a dead man (deadweight) over a balcony, and slice his throat without a trace of evidence!
