About this listen

I calmed his demons. He created mine.

Macon Davis. My best friend’s brother. My tormentor. My least favorite person. Pothead. Delinquent. A careless, directionless loser.

That’s what I used to believe, but I didn’t really know him. And when I finally saw him, it was the best and worst thing to ever happen to me.

We burned hot and fast. Passion. Anger. Love. Pain. We were reckless. Naive. We were doomed from the start.

When I finally saw Macon Davis for who he was, we both went down in the flames.

***

The Love of My Next Life is part one of a duet. It is just as much a love story as it is a tale of ruin. While the duet will end in an HEA, book one does not.

Messy and emotional

LOVE the angst, the drama and the sweet, sweet heartbreak. This book hurts so good. Oh, and on a side note - Claire is a terrible friend and sister and I wholeheartedly hate her. Narration is perfect.

Such a great book!

Brit Benson is fast tracking to my favorites list. Her emotional writing captures my attention and the story lines keep me involved from start to finish. This is the the first book in the Next Life Duet, and it's amazing. We meet Lennon. Artist at heart, she hides her passion from her single parent father. She spends a lot of time with her best friend Claire and her family, as her father is often deployed for lengths of time. While this is fun for Lennon, she does have some problems with Claire's brother Macon. He is a bully, and has no problem pushing Lennon around. But what transpires throughout their relationship is truly heart wrenching. Macon is a lost soul, and his self loathing and sibling hatred does not help him. Lennon sees him for who he is, not what others make him. But Macon's self medication and poor mental state may be too far gone. Benson sets up this gut wrenching, emotional story and leads us through the lives of two flawed young adults. It's hopeful at times, it's loving, it's brutal and ruthless, and sad! The cliffhanger has me hanging on the edge wanting to know what comes next. I am waiting patiently!

JF Harding and Lidia Dornet are fabulous together as they bring this story alive! I love both of these narrators, and they do their characters justice. Harding is perfect as the damaged soul of Makon. He is broody, mean, and broken, yet he has a dim light shining in his voice. Dornet is Lennon, full of teenage hopes and dreams, yet life as it throws her curve balls adds sadness and pain. Their voices blend together and make a fantastic listening experience

Intense and Emotional!

This is the first installment in the Next Life Duet. Macon and Lennon's story is intense, and emotional, filled with angst, passion, and secrets. JF Harding and Lidia Dornet did an excellent job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to listening to This Life and All the Rest, the second installment in the duet, to know what happens next.

Amazing story, beautifully narrated

This one gets five stars all around for me. This story is the definition of angsty and will have your emotions all over the place. The amazing narration just amplifies these feelings. My heart broke for so many times for all these characters. Macon and Lennon have undeniable chemistry but there are so many factors working against them. Not only is he an addict and in somewhat of a relationship, but their family dynamics also create a forbidden aspect that elevates the angst. If you like a slow-burn, super emotional story that will leave you with your jaw dropped and running for the next book...this is for you!

Listening to this on audio was such a great experience and I highly recommend it. JF Harding was the best I've ever heard him in this performance. Macon has some demons he struggles with through this whole book and hearing JF Harding bring life to these struggles was the highlight of this book for me. Lidia Dornet was great, as well, and portrayed Lennon's innocence at the right times and her anger at the right times and her grief at the right times. Add in the duet style narration and it's a top tier audiobook.

MISS!! My heart I can't 😭🥹

Lennon Capri Washington is every parent's dream: a good, 𝖉𝖎𝖘𝖈𝖎𝖕𝖑𝖎𝖓𝖊𝖉, smart girl who doesn't cause 𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖇𝖑𝖊𝖒𝖘.
When her father goes on 𝖊𝖗𝖗𝖆𝖓𝖉𝖘 he trusts his neighbors to take care of her.
With the neighbor's daughter Lennon's definitely got along and they are even best friends. With the neighbors' son, Macon, on the other hand... it's a 𝖉𝖎𝖋𝖋𝖊𝖗𝖊𝖓𝖙 story.🫣
Macon Davis is the 𝖇𝖆𝖉 𝖇𝖔𝖞 𝖜𝖍𝖔 𝖌𝖊𝖙𝖘 𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖔 𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖚𝖇𝖑𝖊 like it's the only door he knows to enter, 𝖘𝖒𝖔𝖐𝖊𝖘 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖉𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖐𝖘 𝖚𝖓𝖈𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖈𝖎𝖔𝖚𝖘𝖑𝖞, makes his mother 𝖘𝖆𝖉 and his sister 𝖍𝖆𝖙𝖊 him like 𝖈𝖗𝖆𝖟𝖞.

The two 𝖈𝖆𝖓'𝖙 𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖓𝖉 each other from the first moment they met.
Lennon sees Macon as a boy who's looking for 𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖚𝖇𝖑𝖊, her personal 𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖊𝖓𝖙𝖔𝖗, one with "𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖞 𝖆𝖜𝖆𝖞!" sign written on all over his face.
Macon sees Lennon as the 𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖚𝖋𝖋𝖊𝖗𝖆𝖇𝖑𝖊 girl who makes his mom keeps saying "Why don't you be a like Lennon?", the perfect to the point of 𝖓𝖆𝖚𝖘𝖊𝖆, 𝖇𝖔𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖌 girl who lets everyone 𝖉𝖎𝖈𝖙𝖆𝖙𝖊 her life.

The development of the characters in this book was amazing, Brit made me go through a 𝖗𝖔𝖑𝖑𝖊𝖗 𝖈𝖔𝖆𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖗 𝖔𝖋 𝖊𝖒𝖔𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓𝖘!
𝕰𝖓𝖊𝖒𝖎𝖊𝖘/𝕯𝖎𝖘𝖑𝖎𝖐𝖊 to lovers at the strongest level I've come across!
The moment when the characters realize that the other is not what they thought and begin to see them in a completely different light - this is the moment when my heart is completely stolen ❤️
Nothing was expected, there wasn't a moment to rest.
I finished the book with a 𝖇𝖆𝖓𝖌, the end was a 𝖘𝖑𝖆𝖕 𝖎𝖓 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖋𝖆𝖈𝖊 for me and I found myself left with a taste for more, so I immediately continued to the next book😍

JF & Lidia... I have no words!
Once I started, I could not stop listening
I was so captivated with their performance, I felt like I could skip sleep, food, everything!
Those two upgraded this book to another level!
I couldn't stop and I finished the book in less than a day 😍

Captivating Story!

If you love a well written angsty new adult with a messy romance - this duet is for you!

I loved this listen and the storyline was captivating with intriguing characters. Boy, what a cliffhanger we were left on!! Such an emotional roller coster and Macon and Lennon navigate their teen years with some very tough situations. Timing and circumstances were major hurdles and the agonizing pain they endured was heartbreaking.

Macon was the tough bad boy who had struggles but really just wanted to be seen for him and loved unconditionally. Lennon had her own strengths and in spite of so many things loved Macon unconditionally.

The audiobook was amazing and JF Harding and Lidia Dornet were great together and they really shined with their performance.
