About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Simon Green introduces a new kind of hero, one who fights the good fight against some very old foes in the first novel in the Secret Histories series.

The name’s Bond. Shaman Bond. Actually, that's just his cover. His real name is Eddie Drood, but when your job includes a license to kick supernatural arse on a regular basis, you find your laughs where you can.

For centuries, his family has been the secret guardian of Humanity, all that stands between all of you and all of the really nasty things that go bump in the night. As a Drood field agent, he wore the golden torc, he killed monsters, and he protected the world. He loved his job.

Right up to the point where his own family declared him rogue for no reason. Now, the only people who can help Eddie prove his innocence are the people he used to consider his enemies....

Strange Matter

I liked his inquisitive character and of course jack who was a real goodie . The performance was a bit monotonous at times which lost some expression and personality of each of the characters

A good humoured romp through an alternative world

Typical Simon Green - OTT bad guys, good guys and action, with a sprinkling of humour! Didn’t love the narrator to start with but he grew on me.
Not my favourite, because there was a fair bit of scene setting/Drood world building, but I’m v hopeful the next in the series will be a cracker!

Fun story but interesting accents

The story was a fun, easy listen but I just couldn’t make sense of where the accents were meant to be from. Was the main character Australian? I hope that a general apology has been issued to anyone from Pakistan or it might have been the Welsh mountains or the Outer Hebrides.

A great telling of the story

The voices are not how I imagined they would sound when I read the book but the telling and dramatic nature of the story is still there.

Too Much Brutality

I did not expect from Simon R Green, graphic detail of tortures performed on the beings of the fantasy world depicted. I no longer cared how the story turned out, it was too unpleasant and upsetting to listen to.
