Summary

Such a pretty face....

So young, so sweet. She appeared out of nowhere, in the middle of traffic, on a busy day. A teenager with no past, no family - no memories.

Such a lovely child....

So blond and beautiful. Carol and Paul were drawn to her – she was the child they’d never had. A dream come true. And then Carol’s nightmares began – the ghastly sounds in the night…the bloody face in the mirror…the razor-sharp ax.

Such a relentless evil....

So deceptively innocent. Most mothers would die for such a darling little angel. And that’s what frightened Carol most of all.

An entertaining listen

The story is entertaining despite being fairly predictable. There are some humorous exchanges but this is 'straighter' than the style seen in Koontz's other works like Odd Thomas and Life Expectancy.

It's genuinely creepy at parts and well-paced, keeping up the tension throughout.

I really liked Natalie Ross's reading, she has a lovely voice that I could listen to all day and she does a great job with the different character's voices, both male and female.

I was disappointed in the ending which left questions unanswered and was very abrupt, but I would listen again.

Very good... Just too short!

I am becoming very fond of this author having now read a small selection of his previous work, this being my fourth I think.

This book is very good, I wont go into any detail, as i have a habbit of accidently giving things away. Anyway, the only reason this book got 4 stars as opossed to 5 as I found it was too short. I would of enjoyed the story to continue longer, as well with the ending i would of liked to been able to explore that more as opossed to the slightly abrupt ending that was given here. Which I suppose in a sense is a credit to the author as I did not want the story to end.

As with all his books, the characters are fantastic and truely likeable and he has the ability to make the us the readers feel really intune and 'want' to follow these characters wherever they may go!! Super read.

Almost there

It's probably the only Dean Koontz book that I haven't given 5 stars too. I've been reading his books and he's been in my top 5 authors forever, however as good as this book was, it just stopped dead. It needed another two chapters or an epilogue to finish it off properly it was one of his earlier books, so I can forgive him 😊

disappointing

Rather disjointed. might have been better reading for myself as the narrative jumps about from one place to another without warning or new chapter.
No real explanation or joined up thinking to the spooky bits which were superfluous to the story.
not up to Koontz' usual standard.

Mask unmasked

The story is good, as is the reading. There were times when there was too much detail but I enjoyed the book.
It is definitely not one of his best, but enjoyable nonetheless.
