A truly British long story

I thought this was a bit long but it's full of British wit and humour and I loved the pop culture references.

There are many characters who keep appearing and re appearing, you have to keep up.

The crime, mystery and suspense works very well.

Mack has his work cut out needing so many different voices to cover so many characters but he pulls it off perfectly. The narration is excellent.

Lovable criminals

Throughout this listen a strong air of the English West Midlands is present, or more precise Birmingham. Even if you are not English nor been here on stay-cation then Charlie Wood describes the setting endearingly.

The characters are criminals but have distinct lovable traits, and will find their way into your interest from the first minutes of listening. Twists, turns, and switch-a-rooes keep both the book, story, and you on alert which kept my interest throughout.

A nice touch is also the choice of a British narrator - Graham Mack does a very good job bringing the book to life.

Played like a fiddle

"The Memorabilia Man" has a great sense of place right out the gate. The introduction instantly hooks you and you slowly begin to invest in the main character.

Many twists that I'm not giving away, and turns are littered throughout this read and the authenthic Graham Mack does an excellent job narrating, overall a pleasant voice.

I was played like a fiddle and so the 5 stars rain all around.

Exiting and Fun!

A twisted tale of gangsters, ex musicians, and broken families tie together in this fun and exciting web of a story. A great performance by Mack, and expert tale from Wood. Great characters, I think at the heart of this one, most will revel in Mike’s journey.

sordid deeds

At times I wanted to laugh and others I wanted to cry. Some of this seemed liked a comedy of errors and some were tragic. People who have no morales, conscience, or scruples doing wrong because they cam or for greed. smh. Betrayals and backstabbing abound. Interesting and intriguing . I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Good

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a good book with interesting characters. The narrator was spot-on and I enjoyed it for the most part. There were times where I was not as engaged as I could have been but overall, it was an enjoyable book.

Loved this!!

Wasn't sure what this was going to be like. But right from the start I was hooked. Loved the cockney accents of the narrator. The story itself was intriguing with quite loveable characters even though they were criminals. I was expecting Arthur Daley to pop up at any moment. I didn't understand the title part "When they tell you they're not gangsters" but after listening for a while I couldn't help smiling at that. If you're after a book that is enjoyable, easy to follow this is the one. I'm happy to give it 5 stars all over!
