About this listen

"...with a husky whisper, he half spoke to himself, the terrible question his heart held, 'But what will have been the point of me, Lyra?'"

What is the point of life? Especially a tragically short life?

James believes he is pointless. But he will discover his truth - what an opportunity for love he is. He will embrace the divine and release the deepest treasures of his soul, and help his family unlock their own.

James is a young man with a terminal illness and a family that is falling apart because of it. Apart from trying to deal with his own mortality, James also has to cope with a father who is running away from reality by withdrawing from his son, a mother who is constantly fearful, and a sister who sees more than she should.

When James meets Marcham, a mystical beast who takes him on a series of powerful spiritual journeys, James begins to understand the meaning of life, death, and family.

Once you’ve accepted your death, what is there left to fear?

A magically eloquent story that will open hearts to the power of love and forgiveness.

This is the first book in the Beyond Veils series.

5* beautifully read story by a magical narrator.

What an amazing story by Rachel Davidson and brought so magically to life by Amy Foley.
I felt lost inside this world and could not wait to listen to the rest of the story, I found myself pausing after every single chapter to take in what Amy was saying and to think about the beautifully subtle words she was saying. No matter who you are it can be related to very easily.

With this audio book you can listen and just relax as the tale is being told or you can really delve into what is being said and find the hidden meanings. A very spiritual book with such beautiful messages.

I'm more of a traditional reader (I love to read from paper books, but after listening to Amy's beautiful storytelling voice that not only transports you right into the centre of the story but encapsulates the tones, messages, spiritualism and the characters so well. I will definitely be listening to more audio books read by Amy as she has the perfect reading voice (or bedside manner if you would like).
I would highly recommend this to any spiritual person and anyone who loves to hear a good story.

A story that fans of all different genres would love.

Things I liked:

-The story is compelling & the characters feel grounded in reality.

-Each character has a unique voice & the fantastic narration kept me engaged throughout.

-The descriptive writing reminded me of some of my favourite fantasy novels such as the works of Tolkien.

-Amy Foley’s narration is well-spoken & perfectly suited to the writing style.

Whatever your preferred genre I think that you’ll find something to like in this book as it blends a few different genres together in an interesting way & therefore I can honestly say I would recommend it to anybody.

Think Alchemist and Celestine Prophecy...

Despite initially struggling with The Point of Me, a couple of chapters in I found myself swept away by Rachel Davidson’s first novel. As the story is told through the eyes of a teenage boy who is dying, the narrative and could easily have veered into sentimentality. Instead, the engaging storyline and believable characters central to The Point of Me, use the heart-rending central dénouement to get the reader to engage with their own spiritual journey. We become caught up with the need to understand not just the point of James life, but our own as well.

Davidson’s beautiful symbolism allows readers to become immersed in the ‘world unseen’ offered up for examination. And, as with the Celestine Prophecy, or even Paulo Coelho’s Alchemist, I believe that by engaging with the truths at the heart of her narrative, I have emerged a little wiser and stronger. I look forward to reading The Truth of Her, the second in The Beyond the Veils Trilogy
