Enthralling

It took me a while to become engaged, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. Great plot, and characters that jumped out of the page.

Brilliant writing holds the reader to the story

Anthony Horowitz is an amazing writer - I’m 69 but such a good fantasy story and held me all the way!

Seriously gripping stuff

Never mind that this is meant to be a book for kids. Adults will find it seriously gripping too. From first to last it is horror, a bit of geopolitics and some priceless nuggets of highly amusing dialogue. Engagingly read with the whole supplemented by atmospheric music and sound effects. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Perfect blend of fantasy & reality

The ordinary way we are introduced to the main character makes the ideal backdrop for the extraordinary events that happen all around him.

I was gripped from the first chapter and loved the way events from the past were gradually revealed to add weight to the thrilling drama surrounding our hero.

A great start to the series.

Intriguing story

This is not my usual book choice but I did get caught up in Anthony Horowitz’s fantasy. I found myself re-reading chapters because I couldn’t make sense of who was who and why they were involved! Paul Panting made the rendition quite effective with his reading skills and background noises. I don’t think I would recommend this book, probably because it’s not a genre that I’m comfortable with but still appreciated the writing and reading skills.

Different but good

Not what I’m used to listening to from audible, made for a pleasant change- more like a dramatisation.
